Age ain’t nothing but a number right? Well it is a barrier to entry into clubs, but in the same week my timelines have been hit with news of DJs finding fame at opposing ends of the age spectrum.
At the more youthful end of things is 12 year old Federico Gardenghi. While most kids his age are happier being buried inside their phones, Federico has been learning the DJ craft and knocked out a decent four deck set for DJ Mag TV. I have to wonder just how many paper rounds he has to do to pay for such a setup though.

And at the other end of the scale is 82 year old Sumiko Iwamuro aka Sumirock, who by day is a dumpling maker in the restaurant she owns with her brother. And by night she’s a Techno DJ in Tokyo. And although she plays Techno, she’s happy to throw in some curveballs like French Swing and Classical too. Definitely much more my taste.
So don’t let age put you off. Young or old, the only numbers you need to worry about are BPM and pitch. Have a great holiday weekend!
