VIDEO: DJ Shiftee’s Drop Top routine

Something for the weekend — DJ Shiftee delivers a cool routine based on his own "Drop Top" for Fact Magazine. Enjoy.

A little weekend inspiration from DJ Shiftee. Filmed by Fact Magazine, Shiftee works his magic by smashing together his Drop Top track featuring Cakes Da Killa with the Curl Up remix to make a cool 2 minute set.

Shifted tells me that this is done with Stems. I’ve had a dig around and can’t find them commercially, so I figure that this is his private stash only. Enjoy.

  1. Shows exactly how much fun can be had playing doubles with stem decks! You can build custom intros and cut vocal snippets on top of the instru before dropping the full tune etc. Stems has alot of potential IMO.

And the routine was quite flawless, rsp

  4. Shiftee is nothing but amazing. You can see the precision and discipline he puts into all of his routines. I see CutSelekta’s comments and I notice that there’s always going to be those guys/gals that hate on something.

Time moves forward, it doesn’t stay on your terms. Music evolves and goes in infinite directions. Dope music has no shelf life. One person might be inspired by this routine or even the tracks he played. In my opinion, Shiftee and the other guys alike have been changing the way we look at Turntablism and Production. I’m inspired by these guys and i think it’s great that today’s technology allows us to rethink our DJ sets.

You don’t have to adopt anything new into your craft. You also don’t have to shit on someone’s art because you don’t like. my TWO cents

    • i agree dope music has no shelf life, but calling this dope is like calling Bieber dope as well…but on the other hand if people enjoy Bieber then good for them, i know i won’t be playing that stuf and neither Shiftee’s teenage music.

          • I have to ask… Are you just trolling for conversation? Justin Bieber is actually talented. You just dis him and anyone succeeding. I would like to see a video of you doing something. Go to my Youtube so you can hate on my videos.

I’m definitely no Shiftee, but I’m positive about this culture and contribute what i can. There’s already too much negativity out there. But I guess it comes with the package

            • yes he’s talented and if you love that stuff then good for you, im not really into pop rap or pop music, if you have a problem with that then that’s your choice, have fun.

              • Sounds like you have a problem. And, I’m passionate about the future of this art form. I would suggest that you be more positive. Wasn’t there teenage music back in your day?

                • Yes there was NSync, BackStreet Boys, now the fan girls have grown up, i doubt they still play that.

If you’re a fan of superficial pop music then all good for you, wonder why ppl get mad about taste? SMH

  5. I love shiftee’s routines because his skills are on par with any of the legendary turntablists but unlike them he doesn’t seem like a superhuman freak when doing his routines….you can tell that what he is does is difficult and requires hard work. He looks like he is concentrating and has worked his ass off on to get the routines flawless. Gives me hope as a dj!
