Serato DJ Lite is essentially the cut down beginner’s version of the full fat Serato DJ Pro. And I know that when the original version came out, there was some concern that the gap between Lite and DJ was perhaps not wide enough. But as new features become standards, the gap will narrow even more. And with the release of Serato DJ Lite v1.3.2. comes beatgrids, a standard feature in just about everything else, which makes it a welcome addition here.
But it’s not just that — Serato has added some training wheels to Serato DJ Lite in the shape of some starter tracks to get you going, as well interactive help baked right into the software. Here’s what they have to say:
The best for beginners – Serato DJ Lite 1.3.2 introduces Beatgrids, free demo tracks, and in-app learning
Serato is excited to announce Serato DJ Lite 1.3.2, delivering a suite of significant upgrades to inspire new DJs to hone their craft. The release includes Serato’s signature Beatgrids, free demo tracks to learn to mix with, plus a new in-app learning experience taking new users through key features in the software.
“We’re always looking to make beginner DJs learning experience with our software more enjoyable and fulfilling,” says Chief Strategy Officer, Nick Maclaren.
“Integrating Beatgrids into Serato DJ Lite prepares DJs for what to expect on DJ Pro, while the addition of demo tracks and a new in-app educational experience will support beginners learning how to DJ. We can’t wait to see who these new users become in the DJ world.”
Beatgrids
A Beatgrid is a series of markers that point to the location of downbeats within an audio file. They are great tools to visualize your mix and were previously only available in Serato DJ Pro. Using Sync in Serato DJ Lite will now snap to these.
Free demo tracks to learn with
Serato DJ Lite now comes loaded with six demo tracks to get mixing with straight away. Included are three House and three Hip Hop tracks. These will automatically appear in your library.
In-app learning
A new learning experience for first time DJs to get started with Practice Mode. Built right into Serato DJ Lite, it has never been easier to learn how to mix.
Recent updates

THE GAP CLOSES
It’s only ever so slightly, and is unlikely to close by much more. But at least the target audience for Serato DJ Lite can now experience music in the way modern DJs use it. It would be quite the surprise for a fledgling DJ to suddenly be confronted with all those lines on their tracks, and then realise that life was much harder as a beginner than it needed to be.
