I don’t about you, but I like my DJ gear to be industrial – Black or Silver is where it’s at for me, and for a great many other people too. But Pioneer seem to have other ideas, and following on from the limited edition DJM-900nexus/CDJ-2000 seen at NAMM, here comes a not-at-all limited edition pearly white CDJ-850-W and DJM-850-W combo.
I hope that when Pioneer say Pearl White, they mean the iridescent kind of glittery white that a 3D render just can’t convey. Under disco lights, that’s going to look pretty cool. There are no other changes apart from the paint job, and they’re coming late September for $999/€930/£769 and $1999/€1,499/£1,299 respectively.
TIP: When making the image for the story, I thought it would be funny to have an oh so English reference to Pearly Kings and Queens. But putting “pearly” into Google image search yielded unexpected results. I do not recommend it in an office environment. But having said that, I know you’re going to anyway.
Pioneer must have done some research to realise a need for this. I’ve never been a fan of white gear myself, but it does seem to be getting popular. I suppose given the DJWORX branding, perhaps I should have a Vestax PMC-08 Pro as the official in-house mixer.
What do you think of these? Not the Pioneer element, but the colour? Can you imagine staring down at anything but industrial shiny?
