When Mixvibes released the original Remixlive, it was designed to be a distraction from DJing and equally to supplement a conventional setup too. But with the release of v4, the feature set is developing into something more akin to an Akai or Maschine workflow. This time sample editing has been added, and it’s all on mobile platforms too.

Import songs you wish to sample and create loops and one-shots from them, directly in the app. Adjust them and make your own grid full of samples ready to be played. Shape your sounds with smooth fade-ins/outs, snap your selection to the original grid for perfect loops — or edit the BPM to stay perfectly on the beat.

Apps like this aren’t exactly rare. But I like that a DJ company is getting into this area. At times it feels like we’re force-fed the notion that to be a DJ in 2018, we absolutely must produce our own music. So it’s good that Mixvibes can approach this type of product with perhaps a more DJ friendly workflow, one that heaven forbid might even plumb straight into the rumoured update to Cross DJ.
To save you looking, the apps are free, but the advanced features like import/export ($6.99) and sample editing ($4.99) are in-app purchases. Sample packs range from free to $2.99.
