BPM 2017: Hang out at the Portablist Lounge

With BPM 2017 just under three months away, it’s time to start trickling out news of what will be happening 22-23 October at the Genting Arena, NEC, Birmingham. This way you can have plenty of notice to come up with your weak excuses for not coming to the show.

This year, we’re happy to hang our hats on the Portablist Lounge hook, a gathering for portablists courtesy of Magma Bags and Ritchie Ruftone’s Turntable Training Wax shop.

This is the first announcement, with a few dots to join in due course:

PORTABLIST LOUNGE

MAGMA and TURNTABLE TRAINING WAX proudly present the PORTABLIST LOUNGE  – The new event to support for the Portable Scratching community and culture.

The first 2-day PORTABLIST LOUNGE event will take place on October 22-23 at the MAGMA booth FD14 within the BPM/PRO show at the Genting Arena in Birmingham /UK.

With a lounge area to relax and talk all things portable with likeminded people, equipment to trial, scratching cyphers to jump on, products for sale, turntable modification area, lots of free give-aways, awesome raffle prizes, plus a Portablist Lounge battle.

General admission to the event can be purchased here.  Use the discount code MAGMA5OFF.

The ticket is valid for two days and also includes admission to the Jazzy Jeff BPM after show party on the Sunday evening!

The sequence of events have yet to be confirmed, including the ‘format’ of the battle.

Registration for the battle can be found here. (not open for registration just yet – Ed)

Portablist Lounge will also be releasing a looper (TableBeats) for the event, that will have 16 beats – this will be used through out the battle.

Submissions for the Portablist Lounge Looper v1 will be announced shortly.

Portablist Lounge BPM 2017 portablism

So basically you’re getting a microcosm of the portablist scene for a couple of days at BPM including leading players in the game. You could just hang out with other portablists and work out how to pronounce “portablism”, or you could prove your 45 chops in the battle. Either way, it’s not likely that there will be a better focussed gathering in the UK for a log time.

For those in Europe who fancy this but are complaining about the north sea, Birmingham Airport is right next door to the NEC, and a quick glance at Momondo shows that if you book early enough, there are some very affordable flights. So hopefully some of you international portablists can make it to our little island of the coast of Europe for a jam.

Oh and there’s an awful lot more to see at BPM as well. And if you buy your tickets using the code MAGMA5OFF, you can get an advanced discount too. Should be a hoot.
