Times have absolutely changed over the years. And as this video shows, the technology needed to pull off a solid scratch set is not what it used to be. Please close your eyes and imagine Fong Fong doing this set on a pair of turntables and mixer — not far off really is it? And that’s all courtesy of algoriddim djay, the Reloop Mixtour, and a heap of skills.
That’s all. Move along now.
Yup!
Just like I said 6 years ago the iPad is going to replace the computer in the DJ industry..hats off to my good friend Karim and Frederik of Algoriddim’s
They created the best DJ app for IOS and Mac.
I’m glad I got to be a part of it.
Not enough storage.
The new DJPP app has NAS network drive playback capability. So storage problems can be ignored if you want to juggle a little. AFAIK there are wifi enabled external hard disks that you could use as NAS storage.
I don’t believe that to be the case. For some, definitely. And as technology advances, tablets will be integrated more into setups. But the laptop will continue to be the DJ tool of choice for a very long time.
@mark. Whats your take on standalone mixers with dvs built-in a closed system? Akai is bringing back real standalone MPCs in a very close future with their own OS (NOT Windows based). Do you belive that NI or Serato will go that road too?
Not windows based? XD

Win10 IoT adapted.

Read there, I’m not going to repeat the same on and on. Even with the new “Arm running x86 promise” of the latest days it seems a mix between promises and potential fail. In anyway “dedicated OS” and “not windows based” make an paradox.
The message is that the crossfader skills matter more than the media manipulation skills. I dunno. DJing like this just doesn’t seem “fun”. Separately, I think we’ve reached a point where you can now do any known technique with just about any gear. Where’s the innovation in performance, meaning when do we see and hear something that couldn’t be done before?
haters gonna hate…but sometimes the innovation is in the combination of what you can do with what tool…If you have a flying bicycle then that’s an innovation?
You can drive a car with your feet, but that doesn’t make it a good idea…just sayin’
It’s like in Tennis…they make the balls slower to make the game more interesting for the consumers. The same is applied in DJ-ing, where the companies logically want to earn money and make DJ-ing more accessible to the dancing consumers and capture them even more and cash-in even more. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. But when did they start to dictate/define the culture? It was the ouside-of-the-box-thinking of DJs/Turntablists, that made DJ-ing evolve and not the companies bringing out gear…
That said I prefer Fong-Fong on the wheels of steel as I prefer DJ Sara flexing vinyl records instead of jog wheels…
Luckily opinions are like a..holes
Get back on them tables! :-)
I just finally watched this, read some comments, the sound quality was really nice on the scratching(manipulation).
