UNBOXING: Sennheiser HD 25 Aluminium DJ Headphones

Call it an unboxing, or call it a photography practice session — either way here's is a set of pictures of the new Sennheiser HD 25 Aluminium DJ headphones.

It’s Saturday afternoon, and having just finished some video work, I decided to unleash the camera on the new toys that arrived chez worxlab this week. One such toy is (or are) the all new Sennheiser HD 25 Aluminium DJ headphones, which were duly unwrapped in the old worxlab at home and thrust in front of my lens.

For those of a photographic persuasion, this set was put together in about 3 hours on white backdrop with nothing but a desk lamp as my light source. The camera is a Sony NEX 7 and a Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM lens, connected with the Metabones Speed Booster adapter. I shot as wide open as I could, which with the Speed Booster means F1. Yes, it’s insanely wide open, and makes for some very special shots in a hurry. I particularly like the security label shot.

About the headphones themselves — obviously there will be a full review, and a side by side comparison with a pair of regular HD 25s, but the first impression is one of quality, especially with the new luxury case that the headphones come in. I’ll do my best to get that out this week so you can decide if it’s worth an upgrade, or simply time for a pair of new cans.

Please let me know if you have moral, cultural or other objections to unboxing photo-shoots. This one was more an exercise in flexing my camera muscles, a duty that Hatty has taken over for the Summer holidays. The final photo shoot will feature both HD 25s for added variety, as well as being free advertising for Adidas of course.

  1. Is it actually aluminum or is it just silver paint? I don’t mind product unboxing pics, but what I do mind is when a company charges MORE for a different color.

  2. I’m interested in the review rather than looking at pictures, but you do make some terrific photos, those alone are enough to start unfounded gear lust …. (I almost bought a xone DB2 after the pictures you took).

I know you have already stated they all sound much the same at this price break, i’d be interested in a build quality comparison with the HDJ-2000 (which seems to be the strongest competitor).

PS – orbit review please, it’s almost release date …. :)

  3. How do they differ to Sennheiser Amperior? They are build the same way, exceptthe 25 have 70Ω compared to the 18Ω of the Amperior and you get a mic for your cable with the Amperior.
So I don’t see a point in introducing an aluminium version of the 25 to be honest. The normal 25 are tuff as a brick wall, I haven’t seen anyone cracking one. And also, the black color looks better in my Opinion.

The only real improvement to the old 25 and also to the Amperior is the case, which is good looking, but because of it’s size it would only stay at home when I would walk into a club.
