After literally years in the DJ wasteland, Native Instruments finally did a show and tell of all the stuff they’ve been cooking up for Traktor Pro 3, and the much-needed updates to their Kontrol S2 and S4 controllers. And bugger me if it wasn’t worth the extended wait — Traktor Pro 3 is attractive to a Serato die-hard like myself, the Kontrol S2 emkay 3 is a beginner’s dream, and the Kontrol S4 emkay 3 looks to change the face of controllers and beyond with the new Haptic Touch jog wheels, patents permitting of course.
But throwing money at the screen hasn’t made this new gubbins come any quicker. But today NI announced preorders of their new shiny. You can get your name down on the new Kontrol S2 emkay 3 here, and the Kontrol S4 emkay 3 available a little later (November 1st) here.
As for Traktor Pro 3 — It’ll be available October 18th. If for some crazy reason you absolutely have to get Traktor Pro 2 now, you’ll get a free upgrade to 3. For those waiting to upgrade from an existing version, that’ll set you back $49/€49/¥6280/£44/AUD $79/CAN $69/CNY 379.
We’ve already got the new Maschine Mikro emkay 3 in for a bash. Dan’s belief is that it’ll make a solid addition to a DJ’s setup, once MIDI mode is implemented of course. The S2 is on the way, and the S4 sometime after. The more more Traktor savvy members of the team will have this covered while I dig into Traktor Pro 3 and make up for many years of barely using it.
Just wondering if Traktor Pro 3 finally has Retina support. The screenshot on Native Instruments website look awfully pixelly…
Sort of… The Traktor UI engine still can’t handle high-DPI screens, but I think one of the reasons for the redesign is to make it all less obvious.
Ideally Native Instruments should rewrite the UI engine to be vector based, so it could scale to any pixel density. If I recall correctly, that’s what Image Line did with FL Studio.
While we’re waiting that, I wouldn’t mind having the option to display Traktor in 1x pixel density instead of scaling it 2x on a Retina display. Sure, everything is going to be tiny, but there would be plenty of screen space for 4 decks and playlist.
So just to confirm, upgrading from TSP 1 to Traktor Pro 3 is only going to be $49 and I can still use my Audio 8? or did I miss something?
Pretty sure it’ll mean Traktor Pro 2 rather than 1. As for the Audio 8 — it may work, but I doubt it’s officially supported.
Audio 8 will work as long as the drivers do. which they won’t on macOS.
ive been searching for info on updates to Traktor DJ on IOS.. so far the only item I’ve come up with is a post by someone from NI in response to the same question suggesting there wouldn’t be one. The app is so perfect for DJing with two decks… literally all thats missing is cue points for preperation in ipad that port to the main program on laptop, and support for the new devices. Really hope I’m wrong! I may have to buy a fresh ipad and keep the current version on there forever if its a goner… such a good app no other DJ apps comes close…
As to the IOS port seen on the S2mk3, apparently its for future proofing the device. No idea what that means..
Hey man, go check out on their YouTube page on the S2 emkay3. You’ll find at 3:48 a hint on the fresh IOS app coming soon! The S2 has a usb Port labeled IOS!!!!
Nervously waiting for news on backwards compatibility re:
-My A10
-My/Everyone’s MIDI Mapping configs…
Its not a ground up rebuild so I’m decently hopeful.
That said, if they flop on this I might jump ship.
100% nothing to worry about.
Bare in mind that TP3 is dropping DVS for certified interfaces only = any interface will get you DVS.
no record mode or am i missing something?
What do you mean?
