Easy tigers – Serato updates often mean pant-wettingly awesome features. But for Serato DJ 1.6.2, it’s more about trickling out a handful of fixes plus adding support for the Reloop RP-8000 turntables. Serato DJ Intro 1.2 however brings some Numark and Reloop controllers into the cool Serato club.
The short press release reads thus:

It’s all about Serato DJ Intro 1.2
Interesting… so the Reloop RP-8000 is an official Serato accessory now (accessory – really?). It’ll be interesting to see if the Serato logo ends up on the product in future production runs, and indeed if it becomes Serato’s go-to turntable for videos.
Of more, but less obvious interest is how Serato DJ Intro just enabled 4 decks for the new Reloop Beatmix 4 and Numark Mixtrack Quad. Quad owners just got a shot of performance right there, but the bigger picture does open up some interesting scenarios for how Serato will roll out their software to new and existing customers. Intro is seen as entry level, but since when is 4 channels a beginner feature? Perhaps Intro will be the gateway drug for all DJs, so that they can try a basic 4 channel experience on their controller and then upgrade to the full power of Serato DJ. The early releases of 4 channel controllers were certainly half as useful by only having the 2 channel Intro bundled.
I guess times are changing. I’ll never master 2 channels in my lifetime, but hey… 4 is the new 2 right? Now stop messing about Serato – let’s have the good stuff that you’ve kept under the counter while redecorating. We know you’ve got it. ;)
In my view, an update that fixes existing bugs/shortcomings and improves stability is way, way cooler than an update that gives me 18 new awesome ways to Beat Repeat or whatever.
A few years ago, I kind of saw that as the philosophical difference between SSL and Traktor (though less so these days).
rs
so my CDJ350 still won’t operate Serato DJ with USB, scratch live it is for the time being then
Looking back to all the SSL/ITCH/SDJ catharsys… It seems time gives more users to Traktor. Market (people who spent money and how do it) seem more in the mood of traktor. Serato was outdated and regular turntablist was satisfied with SSL (using a SL-1 for a decade) and only few (of these user base) embraced The Bridge (or finally go traktor)
Serato didn’t evolve by itself (needed a plug for video, needed a plug for mixtape/remix, still needs a midi clock…) and left Itch users (those who expent cash in things like NS7 and Apc/launchpad for The Bridge) buried in time over two years…
Finally common sense arrived, ITCH 2 become Serato Dj and merging technology for the present looking to future users without dropping past (adding DVS to SeratoDj/ITCh) was the clever solution.
It is not perfect but it could be with the support of all (users and even haters)
Maybe it is time to be a bit patient and confident due they are doing their job at last… And of course, that’s my opinion/analisys but… If I’m wrong I will thanks someone pointing to my errors. Facts alloweed.
Serato DJ is what came out of all the mistakes made in the past by Serato. They were absolutely right in making software for controllers, but really should have built it into Scratch Live from the start, but at least everything has come together in the end.
Now is when the fun starts – all the stuff they’ve had to sit on while putting their house in order will be trickled out. I don’t know what the timescale is, but I imagine that Serato DJ 2 will be something special.
Agreed
No comment. If this is what you like.To each his/her own. This is just another Tool for DJ’s. And if this is what works for you, then so be it.
why doesn’t my mixtrack play with serato dj intro
I think that’s a question for the Serato support forum Eric. http://serato.com/help/dj/numark
