It’s nice for us to be able toot the trumpet for one of our own, and in this case it’s our Ray aka Arkaei. Not only is he a stellar performer, but also a killer video maker too. And combining these skills, he’s created a live remix for Mixvibes’ Remixlive app.
Using Fluo Kidd‘s “Gone With The Wind”, Ray prepares the remix by breaking the original up into its parts, preloading them up into Remixlive and then pumping out the live remix across an iPad and iPhone synced with Ableton Link. It does rather explain the name of the app — it is what it does. You’ll also see overlays on the video to explain exactly what he’s done with the track and how it works with Remixlive.
Here’s the original:
Remixlive is a free iOS download, with sound packs as in-app purchases. And I’m quite sure that an Android version is in the works too, just not out yet. And if you prefer a desktop experience, Remixlive for Mac is out now too for £22.99, but does a lot more.
lame-ass button push… oh wait
Yeah now try doing that on a turntable. Fake ass button pusher.
I like self-trolling :)
Nice remix of the track by the way, that’s cool to see this kind of stuff.
I concur on the remix. First time I heard it I thought it was a remix of a track from one of LTJ Bukem’s Earth compilations or something but nope.
Alex @Mixvibes
Weak. Everyone knows true DJs only use SL-1200s and rickety old Pioneer mixers from the 1990s, srsly just get with the program, jeez… #fakedjs
nice work!
i like your remix better than the song itself…
when remixlive hit and i saw it was free, i grabbed it. i have bought a buttload of dj-ing and/or producer -related apps for my iPad when they were offered at reduced prices or free. for the most part those apps sit on my iPad taking up space because of the learning curve involved.
remixlive is a different story. i sat down and somehow it just made sense to me. very quickly i was able to start making reasonable sounds come out of the app. i was geeked and bought all of the sample packs and add-ons.
arkaei – big ups. very cool remix.
*salutes* thanks. I’ll make a DJ-friendly edit, have it mastered, and release it for free. Fluo Kidd (DJ Odilon’s producer alter ego!) does this with his music, I have to respect his approach.
Mixvibes is such an under rated company.
Aww, thanks.
Being considered underrated, it’s a great feeling. A very underrated feeling, you could say.
I mainly use Traktor right now, using the HTML format for station set list logging is too convenient.
We hear a lot of press from Serato and Traktor (of course), a bit about VDJ and a couple others… I find that a lot of people that I’ve talked to haven’t heard of Cross.
A bunch of my friends use Serato and I hear them complain, others have Torq hardware… I’m constantly recommending Cross. I’ll probably be picking it up for DVS, in a couple months.
Good luck finding control vinyl. Mixvibes currently doesn’t make it.

Check out that topic and maybe post saying you’re interested in control vinyl. The more interest there is, the more likely they are to start making more.
I know, I’ve already found a few in my area.
Hahn, get a hold of me on Facebook. I can’t seem to PM you in MV forum.
Hey Oddie, I sent you a messag on Facebook but am not sure if it went through. Some of my friends have been having weird messenger issues. What’s up?
I have been doing a bit of poking around and there should be a little bit of stock hitting the market soon, just hold tight.
Hey guys, sending you a message on facebook. I have an idea and want to bounce it off someone.
Answering your email right now ;)
Thank you.
I love Remixlive and I have been really diggin’ it. It’s great to see Mixvibes going this way.
Does it link with Cross via Ableton Link too? Dropping remix decks into software like that is a slightly different approach to what Traktor has done by having them built in.
Hi Mr Wilks,
Glad you’re enjoying the app! And yes, it links with Cross DJ but only the iOS version of Cross DJ (which also has Ableton Link) as for now Ableton Link is only in iOS apps, the only desktop app compatible with Link being Ableton’s own Live.
You can see it in action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYbpQUA1bUM
I thought this was Live-Remixing à la Enferno, this got me little confused when I watched this RemixLive-“live-remix”…
Give Enferno an iPad and an iPhone, then see if he can do better with this app ;)
