Pioneer DJ does love new shiny. And even the newest shiny has got a gold version before it has even hit the streets. Having just announced the DJM-S9, Pioneer DJ is hoping to turn the heads of well heeled scratch DJs with a limited run of gold PLX-1000s and the new DJM-S9.

THEIR SAY

Turntablists are in for a treat with the release of limited edition gold models of the PLX-1000 turntable and DJM-S9 two-channel mixer for Serato DJ. Both feature a gold-finish top panel and elements of gold throughout their design, including the turntable’s tone arm and the mixer’s crossfader and channel fader knobs.

We’re releasing just 1,000 PLX-1000-Ns and 500 DJM-S9-Ns worldwide, each bearing a plate engraved with its unique serial number – making this a golden opportunity to get your hands on a truly unique set-up.

KEY FEATURES PLX-1000-N

  • Classic DJ turntable layout
  • High-torque direct drive (33⅓ rpm in 0.3 seconds)
  • Solid build for excellent vibration damping
  • Multiple tempo control options: ±8%, ±16% and ±50%
  • Removable power, ground and phono cables
  • Rubber-lined, S-shaped tone arm
  • Tempo reset button
  • Professional-grade gold-plated RCA jacks

OUR SAY

There isn’t a press release for this but the PLX-1000-N is €899 and the DJM-S9-N is €1899, which all told comes to a sphincter-tightening and eye-watering €3697. With 500 sets being made, that’s a total retail value of €1.8m, making this a highly aspirational purchase, and putting you in a very exclusive club, one that your average turntablist cannot hope to be part of.

I prefer black anyway. I like how the dark background makes the buttons pop. Expect them to be given out at DMC finals though.

  1. No effort paid to sound isolation, feedback protection for the PLX’s but they get faux gold plating. Tone Arm bearing out of adjustment from the factory. C’mon Pioneer your priorities are in the wrong place.

  2. I like the gold DJM-S9-N but the gold turntables look really tacky. Reminds me the O5 which I’m very fond of. Would have been nice if the regular edition came with a dark gray brushed metal faceplate instead of that sparkly black.

  3. Hey remember when you had to earn your Gold. Craze posted a few weeks back of an old photo shoot where they pictured all 3 sets of his Gold 12s and Technics mixer. Not knocking on 12inch skinz for bringing the gold to regular joes wanting to pimp out their mixers and tt’s.
But IMO, Gold is earned. I know Technics isn’t around anymore to dole out such prizes. But I’m sure Pioneer or whatever sponsor could muster up something similar. I know DMC has done it with Rane mixers. Just wished they got a Turntable sponsor to give away something similar.

  4. Against my better judgement I have pre-ordered the whole gold set. My new hobby is collecting crap. I still feel sad inside that I never bought the 1200LTD when Richer Sounds was knocking them out for £500 all those years ago. These will get passed on to my great grandchildren one day (lets hope the build quality is good enough and Serato are still going in 25 years time).
