Inevitable — Cross DJ 2.6 with Pioneer rekordbox sync

Pioneer and Mixvibes draw ever closer with the introduction of rekordbox sync in Cross DJ 2.6.

[youtube id=”DRGlRi3Psvs”]

When the news first broke of Mixvibes creating Pioneer’s library management software rekordbox, the writing was on the wall (for me anyway) for Cross to be endowed with this functionality. And that day has come, for Mixvibes Cross DJ 2.6 can now sync directly to rekordbox to create libraries straight to USB.

Here’s the big news courtesy of Mixvibes:

Cross DJ Mac/PC 2.6 gets world’s first rekordboxTM sync

CDJ2000NXS are the club standard. All it takes is a USB stick and you’re ready to rock any venue. However, at home, some people use DJ software with CDJs, controllers or DVS. To retrieve their hot cues, loops and playlists in the club’s CDJ2000NXS, they have to prepare their music in rekordboxTM. With rekordbox sync, what is already prepared in Cross DJ is automatically reflected in rekordboxTM.

Cross DJ becomes the perfect software for CDJ2000NXS users.
It’s now possible to use your Cross DJ collection inside rekordboxTM. Get the best of both worlds. As Mixvibes develops Pioneer’s rekordboxTM, Cross DJ is the only software to offer this compatibility.

Easy sync between Cross DJ and rekordbox.
In rekordboxTM, the Cross DJ collection is displayed in the bridge panel. Automatically syncs:

  • Playlists, smartlists, folders, track metadata.
  • Hot cues, memory points, loops (Each hot cue in Cross DJ is saved as a memory point in rekordboxTM. Additionally, hot cues 1, 2, 3 are saved as hot cues A, B, C).

Additionally, Cross DJ makes the preparation process easier: test mix tracks on two decks, or set hot cues in seconds using Smart Seek.

Time to switch to Cross DJ.
Cross DJ let you import your current DJ software library (including hot cues) making the switch effortless. Cross DJ offers the full pro DJ software package: 4 decks, video mixing, effects, samplers, slip mode, quantize, etc. And it can be controlled anyway you want:• MIDI: mapping for over 80+ controllers
• DVS: compatible with any sound card (Cross only)
• HID: works with CDJ2000NXS, 2000, 900, 850, 400 and 350 (Cross only)

To end with, Cross DJ works just like CDJ2000NXS. So you don’t have to learn anything new.

Cross DJ is 44.99€ / $49.99 / £34.99
Cross (adds HID and DVS) is 79.99 € / $99.99 / £69.99

Cross DJ 2.6 — why this is big news

On the face of it, this might not appear to be anything special. But here’s why it is — the walls between music libraries have always been tough to climb over. Utilities like Alchimie Zinc and latterly Rekord Buddy have gone someway to breaking down the walls, but they are conversions, a process that in any sphere of technology is never smooth. But this is the first time that an application has been able to sync directly to create libraries for another platfrom.

To get some context — imagine if this were Traktor or Serato, where you could use in your favourite DVS, knowing that you could drag and drop your sets to a USB drive and go play in your favourite club on CDJs, and know that you had everything you needed but without the laptop. That’s why this is big news for us and for Mixvibes. No conversions, no potential issues — just the same library right out of rekordbox.

Obviously, it’s not a fix-all situation, but it does signify the closeness of Pioneer and Mixvibes as partners. Who knows – perhaps rekordbox will become the conduit by which all DJs can communicate. It’s one way right now, but this could be the foundation for a universal library format…

I’m sorry — I slipped off into an impossible parallel universe where life was easier for DJs for a moment. Who am I kidding?

      • I don’t care what is/isn’t missing. While this feature is cool its not cool enough for me to entertain switching to something else. Its not a reason too. I love Traktor, already have my Traktor collection, and can find no good reason to buy new software and hardware and start from scratch on my collection at this time. Especially not to a product that isn’t as good as the one I already use, Rekordbox sync or not.

        Besides, Rekordbuddy already exists.

        • Come on, Rekordbuddy is complex and outdated, everybody knows that! And I still don’t see clearly why Traktor is better (excepted if you love the Porter Robinson kind of DJing – JOKE)

        • Come on, Rekordbuddy is complex and outdated, everybody knows that! And I still don’t see clearly why Traktor is better (excepted if you love the Porter Robinson kind of DJing – JOKE)

          • Rekordbuddy, which I rarely use because most clubs in my market don’t have CDJ2000’s yet, is super simple and works great.

I don’t really care if you see why Traktor is better, it doesn’t matter. Lets say it isn’t better, lets say they are equals, if that were true I’d still have no reason to switch from one to the other.

I don’t know who Porter Robinson is other than having friends say his name as a joke.

            • Nothing could be more easy then using traktor or serato, thats a fact, i myself have traktor, all tracks i convert from cd, wav, flac or before mp3 i the analyze, sett ing cues, hotstarts and loops, making some major playlists of tracks i know people want and is a returning feature during the evening.

Editing tags and other data is a breeze, and with “some” hardware the music sounds crisp, clear and warm.

And if you are a Twinpuke cdj driver its no problem to hook up Traktor with 900s or 2000s, if you want to drive 4 2000s it takes more effort.

All in all, nothing could be more easy then traktor, have not always been, but are now!

              Cheers!

    • Why not? What DJ software are you using now?
Is it a case of you having tried Cross and finding it didn’t do X or Y, or more that you want to use “cool” DJ software, and you think using Cross would embarrass you somehow? :-)

      • Software?

im using CDs and Rekordbox on CDJs via SDcards
no fucking computer will ever come near me in a club
at home yes fine, but working, no way, dont mater if it says HP Pro or Apple Pro, same shit different name.

If you want quality you buy qualitygear

I’ll bet you dont have the same piss poor quality sound in your car or home entertainmentsystems!

          • yes i am, are you?

I presume you are the gavin guy that work with Pioneer,so are you proud of yourselves turning gold into shit?

Producing gear thats not ment for bettering ones self as a deejay but quite the opposite. Having tonnes of guys buying most of your crappy line of gear, the cheap ones, thinking them are djs because they can line two tracks together. Especially after watching djsounds.

Most be a booming business selling dreams of nothing!

You as a compay and community send the message that djs is nothing but a person that is a professional IPODcontroller.

Pioneer as a company was way ahead of its competition years ago, regarding putting the right tools in the hands of deejays that wanted to excel to another level, and you did.

            Started with CDJ 500, DJM 500, DJM 909, DJM 800, CDJ 1000, CDJ 400, CDJ 2000 and DJM 2000 and 900.

Then from there it all went downhill, you jumped the synctrain, like everyone else, the lazyass and comforting way of pushing a button cause you are afraid of fucking up in public.

And hey, if David Guetta and Sangello or Paris the “ass” Hitlon can do it infront of millions of people why cant you?

Its one thing to use sync to reach another level that not many even dream of, and there are some out there, but most guys buying the CDJ 2000 / DJM 2000 “cruisecontrol” edition and standing infront of a camera on Youtube, Tumbler, Ustream pushing sync, and mixing not 3 or 4 tracks together but TWO, not using loops, slipmode, scratchig, quantize cause theyre not even can read a fkkin manual.
this is not just locked down to youtube, but clubs and venues as well.

And they also build their gear with even more shit they dont use, show for the audience yes, but use no!

EFX 1000, RMX 1000, some guys have 3 or even 4, but only two hands, and do they use em?

            Noooo

why even call and be so eager of beeing a dj?

Is it cause of Avicii, Guetta, SHM and other PRODUCERS?

Its time that djs demand respect for the time, effort, and work we put in this business, cause djn is a trade and not something you do on your spare time.

But with computers and other selfdriving gear, club & venue owners and promotors put whatever cheapskates they can find, its more about views and likes than real skill, just with much happening in other sectors in soceity.

Why work, why pay for something you can get for free?

But i guess not much of what im saying reach you as many of you are to fresh in the business, embrace whatever shit the manufacturers produce, does not matter if its cheap or expensive, you swallow it whole and you are loving it.

Before brands put out good quality gear for djs that worked right out of the box. Today you are gambeling your money away and Pioneer and so forth are using you as testpilots for their new gear!, cause today most of it is softwarebased, so why complete anything when you can patch or update later on!

CDJ 2000, DJM 900 nexus and RMX 1000 was the last gear i ever bought from Pioneer again.

Try to find your way back when Pioneer stood for something rather then just gkitter and glamour and expensive shit, then im happy to buy from you again!

            • TLDR past the first couple sentences, but based on what I did read I’m sure its full of plenty of colorful nonsense that has nothing to do with me or anything I do.

P.S. No, I am not the Gavin that moderates the Pioneer forum, but if Pioneer wanted to give me that job I would take it without thinking twice.

    • Maybes he just doesn’t want to switch? I think Cross looks pretty damn good, but I won’t be switching either.
Why not? Simply because I’m perfectly happy with Traktor.

  1. So despite iTunes being the most used music library management software out there, we still need to copy files and / or prepare the tracks with another software, then sync it into another software and then export to USB if you are still using a computer (which we know some of us are migrating to iPad these days…) and only then to be able to play in certain selected clubs out there which are proud to have the top-end CDJ’s… Pioneer CDJ-Aero was for me the only Pioneer concept that made some sense. In today’s world, we don’t need computers anymore to prepare our tracks. iPads have more than enough processing power to perform these tasks, so why to prepare things in a computer when you can buy, prepare & play tracks straight from your iPad, while using your favourite music library management software? I think that Mixvibes & Pioneer need to re-think their DJ workflow better. Pioneer CDJ-Aero is the only solution I see some potential, but they need to incorporate waveform display functionality.

    • So I’m not really sure where to start with this.

Personally, I hate iTunes. I hate it with a burning passion for music management. It tags just fine, but the interface is atrocious, to me.

And how would it handle managing cue points, loop positions, gain staging (since it’s going to be using different algorithms for different applications), and analysis for beatgrids? I mean, each application handles those tools differently, and they are all integrated with iTunes for pulling your tunes, just not managing them.

We don’t need PCs to manage songs, but we do need the software. And while the iPad is great for storage for my active set, I have a LOT of music, and would want it centrally stored and to pull from it for gigs. I don’t want to do that to also analyze. And the tools to play from the ipad aren’t great yet. There aren’t many audio interfaces that allow cue-ing. And the software isn’t all ideal for everyone.

The tech will get there, but a lot of DJs (like me) are a ways away from not needing PCs anymore.

      • I’m with Jared. iTunes may be the most used s/w for consumers, but I don’t think it is for digital DJs. I use my DJ software to organise my library, because it’s designed for that job (DJ use).

When I need to transfer files to my media players I use the supplied librarian s/w to do that…..because I have to, or the players don’t see the files.

iTunes is on my computer, but only because some tracks are only available in the iTunes store, and I have iPods and an iPad (so use it for transfers).

        • Itunes, and here i thought that it was the menu i was ordering from at an restaurant!

Itunes SUCK! and let me tell you why, you cant do shit with it, it is cramping your style as a freethinker wanting to change stuff, the quality is really bad, big library yes, but soundquality, ooh man stoneage. pricerange is ok, but i rather pay more for a better aimed sevice twards dj thats not is selling steam or bullshit like port of beats!, allmost double the charge for wanting wav.

Ten years ago a cd went for about $10-15
then the market change, and went full on digital, but the prices did not go down, they went UP, and Itunes with it.

Apple is to big and should stick to making computers and phones for persons that want security and boring lives.

Leave the djpart to people that revere and respect the art, not of making money, but making beats, and putting smiles on peoples faces.

We have the best job in the world, give us the tools and music that we need, not bullshit and stuff we dont need.

A real dj survive and can play on anything that is thrown at him, what he does not what is shitty equipment, bad sound or a bad rep!

      • How much is alot and a reasonable question, how did you aquire them all?

Cause if you were like the old dogs buying vinyl and cds there was a limit, and you had 1000s of hrs behind it all with cratedigging and listening to get to the perfect case.

Its not to hard to get a collection of say 1000-5000 cds
then you average on say 20 000 – 50 000 tracks but it will take you about 10-20 years of getting there. There are not many guys that have the money on getting 50 000 tracks in one swing. And i have heard there are guys that have about 1000 000 tracks or even more

Just imagine if the price per single track were $1 and thats not much for good quality.

Sleazeport offers tunes for $2.49 each and im certain it will go up as more headliners finding the portbusinessmodel a good way to earn a decent buck.

Before i used CD through n trough i ate empty discs for breakfest and used up 10-20 a week, filling them with tracks.

Now using 2000s and rekordbox, the need of a computer is only for storage, i can agree with many that the interface on traktor is the one that is the most easy, you have all tracks a klick away, you edit cuepoints, hotstarts, samples on the fly, you edit tags easier then making coffe, and the djing part is all hands on, mixing stereo or quad if you want and have the need.

Rekordbox however, takes time, you need to store the ENTIRE catalog of music, and if you delete a single one, youre fucked
You need to copy the playlist with tracks to the usb stick, instead of just marking the tracks and transfer them in order or genre.

Rekordbox is a good ideam but can be vastly improved!

So when you write ALOT im naturally interested, not saying all guys are pirates

    • “and only then to be able to play in certain selected clubs out there which are proud to have the top-end CDJ’s”

The other Clubs you bring you controller or (any 4/4 soundcard and timecode) and use the same library with same cue points in the same Software you use to do all preparations in.

    • I would say XDJ R1, thats the complete solution, however they have som bugs n glitches (of some reason duuh) as the software was far from completed when launched.

Comlete idea and hardware, incomplete software!

If it would work i would buy that in a heartbeat, CD, wifi, and usb / rekordbox / midi

  2. I’m not ready to re-create my entire library of loops, cues, blah blah (unless someone can tell me that there’s a convertor like Serato to Traktor..but this also requires iTunes!) but perhaps someone should consider a universal convertor for all DJ software! Sounds naive but one can potentially make a lot of money, and it just might bridge these harsh debates about what software and for what perceived value and blah blah. I’d personally be happy with a “Serato port” USB stick in my pocket and -plug-into a Serato mixer, deck.. NI is a little further ahead but still no option for a USB-to-deck like this one. Looks promising.

    • Cross DJ actually has an impoter of Traktor and Virtual DJ collections : you don’t need to re-create your library to benefit from rekordbox sync.

    • Recreate entire library?, well its not much more different with a business that have a foundation of changing formats to be able to ask for more money.

      Abba – Waterloo!

      Cassette
      Vinyl
      CD
      DAT
      MD
      Mp3
      Lossles
      Wav

Thats why CDJs were smart with the cue and loopcards

And as long as you dont do any major changes to the mp3s they stay intact.
I myself are trancending from mp3 to either Wavs Or Flac to be able to offer the best possible sound for my customers

But yeah another button to push and autotransfer would be great!

  3. Okay, with smart playlists, rekordbox integration, AND HID for CDJs, I was pretty bloody close to giving this a whirl, but then I realized that I was paying $50 more JUST for HID… or $60 more if I, like one might, downloaded the free version, and then upgraded that, by the only route they give you in the software, to Cross “DJ” and then realized that didn’t have HID and had to buy the then $60 upgrade for a total of $110. Mixvibes? More like Badvibes. I’m not into it. $50 or $60 FOR HID!?!?!

    • correction, only the free version will show up if you aren’t registered on the forums. HIGHLY advise against the App store purchase, cause it has sandbox issues that no software can get around from the app store.

  4. We want to welcome new users who discover Cross DJ for Mac through Apple Appstore.
We can’t with the Appstore rules deliver you directly a full MixVibes licence like we do with other shops.
But if you want to submit it you can.
    How to do it:
-Register on the forum with the same mail than on the appstore
-Forward the appstore bill you received to: djcommunity@MixVibes.com
By return you will receive a full MixVibes Cross DJ license for Mac & PC and the full support of the forums.

WARNING: This offer is only for Mac users and doesn’t concern Cross DJ on iOS for iPad

  5. 2 major drawbacks with this Sync (even in Cross 3.0):

    1) It is a one-way sync only (from Cross to Rekordbox):
You can NOT sync back from Rekordbox to Cross! Which enforces you to use Cross as the only master system (never edit/add anything again within Rekordbox or you are lost and again out-of-sync!). This is a no-go for me!

    2) The dynamic beatgrid mode of Rekordbox is NOT supported in Cross:
This means Cross and Rekordbox are still incompatible in this aspect (which is to my mind another no-go).

The mentioned “Rekord Buddy” tool can at least do a real 2-way sync!
