Yesterday, the Worxlab welcomed an industry legend through its doors. Toshi Nakama from Vestax is responsible for more DJ gear innovation than I care to name. And he travelled from the other end of the UK to spend a few hours at DJWORX HQ, and give me a glimpse of the future. Trust me, it’s good but that’s all I’m saying.
Now, we pride ourselves on delivering facts. We don’t deal in hearsay or wishy washy unsubstantiated rumours. So when the opportunity to get answers from the horse’s mouth arose, I took it. So I asked the man who should really know above anyone else in the whole world — just how many Vestax QFOs and Controller Ones were made?
I’d always heard that it was 50 C1s and 500 QFOs. But it seems that there were more — 100 Controller Ones were made, and 800 different types of QFOs are in circulation. These are still small numbers in the whole scheme of things though, and does explain why these units fetch some silly sums of cash. But there’s no denying the pulling power. I had a QFO for a while and loved it, but it was taking up valuable space in the original home based Worxlab. If only I’d kept it now… oh well.
So now you know officially the real deal with the long standing question. You’re welcome.
We need a new vestax turntable on the market, the PDX series was beautiful and I still have 9 of them in tip top condition. A QFO reemergence would be amazing!
Doing limited run models in a totally flat market is commercial suicide.
Of course, but a man can always dream ;)
Now if they had a ton of spare parts laying around… muahahha
Jam One you can have a go on mine before Chris Karns comes and picks it up. Chicago Pilsen
I’d gladly take that offer to rip it up a bit! drop me some contact details: contact@JAM1PHOTO.com
What a legend!
Those numbers were still far less than i was expecting – i knew 4 or 5 people that had qfo at some point. Which now i think about it, is quite a lot really.
wonder if now would be a good time to part with my 380… (its not getting much use since i finally got rid of sl1 for sl3)…. hmmm
Hey Mark ! Congrats for answering this question! I just can’t believe there was only 800 QFO made … wasn’t time right ? It would probably sell 10 times more nowadays.
I’m not so sure. The demand for turntables has gone down sooo much. Controllers and top of the line CD-Js are the new thing now. Although, companies that still make turntables are pioneering hybrid turntables like the new Reloop. And speaking of hybrid have you seen the Hybrid 4-Channel Club Mixer Traktor put out? The Z2 is dope AF.
i’d prefer a pair of reloop rp-7000’s as i have a Z2, but i get buy with a pair of poi 900’s.
No doubt. I’ve yet to try the Reloops but they amazing. I heard NI made some changes to the Z2 mixer recently to make it more sturdy. How do you feel about the Z2 in general?
i love it! i had a NI S4 before my Z2, the Z2 sounds so much warmer. it’s nice that it also has an iso filter and mic/aux line in analog mode for when i am running straight off my cdj’s or if friends are doing a gig with me and want to run serato off an SL with turntables. the switch is a push of a button per deck from traktor mode to analog.

The real questions should have been: how many *black* QFO’s were made, how many *silver*, how many *red* C1s and how many *black* and if the red, ISP special edition PMC06 was ever a reality or just a concept model given to Q-bert.
Thank you.
The Red 06 ISP faceplate is real. I have one. Only 5 were made. 2 as mixers, 3 just faceplates. You can see Q talk about it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUgvEgrrDJo
You got what? You bought the mixer or just the faceplate?
I bought one of the faceplates from Qbert and I tracked down an original 06 PRO “Made in Japan” to put it on. That’s the mixer it would have been on.
Turntable mpc hybrid with circular step secuencer, please.
What I’d like , is an update on the 06. Vestax did good with the 05 pro IV, but should release a pure but complete scratch mixer without midi control. Just good sound, 3 band EQ, master/cue switch, cfx2 (How I love the that crossfader) balanced out, fx send/return, full curve control on all faders,…in the same slim-line format…for about 4-500 €.
i totally agreee with that..i had the PMC-08 and the sound was too digital..really awful so i sold it despite it had all the features i needed.
I would love to get an analog mixer with fx send return looking like the 06..the NUO 2.0 is quiet good but only if updated with the Eternal or Innofader PRO and but has no full wet/dry fx.
A Black PMC-06 with 3 band eq, good sound quality, fx loop and sharp control curve on all faders = my ideal mixer
sold mine too quikly 2 years ago, but i knew by far it would be a bad decision …ha ha ha (thanks Vestax to exist)
Where’d you get the Gold Tone Arm?
lol there is NO space more #Valuable than QFO space
Damn I had my chances getting both. Now the estimated value for each will skyrocket now.
I don’t think so. It’s generally accepted that there were 50 C1 and 500 QFOs. Now there are more so prices should remain the same.
I’m so broke, I’m thinking of selling my QFO. Mirra (from thudrumble) told me that I was the very first person to purchase anything from their online store, let alone, my first purchase was the QFO! I still have the original box (mint) with instructions and receipt! It’s so sentimental to me… fack.
do you still want to sell it?
Yes and no. Yes because I never use it, no because it’s a piece of history in a way.
What’s your contact info?
I’m looking for a qfo nthndgl@gmail.com
Ended up putting it away in it’s original wrappings, styrofoam and box… :)
I’m looking for a qfo, can you contact me jun.rodriguez@gmail.com

I just got my QFO and I’m loving it! The price was a steal, too! It was a bit dusty when I got it coz the original owner didn’t use it much (I know, right?) He got a pair of gold SL1200 as his main rig. Anyway, took only a bit of cleaning and bam! It looks good again. Waiting on the Innofader Pro 2 that I ordered from Stokyo!
