World's Youngest DJ Interview - DJ Archie

World’s Youngest DJ Interview – DJ Archie

The 30 second intro – Who are you?

I’m Archie Norbury aka DJ Archie, the World’s Youngest DJ. I’m a 9 year old dj that loves Drum and Bass, UKG and Bassline music. I started djing when I was 3 years old and by the time I was 4 had the world record. My dad had DJ equipment at home and I watched him while he played. Then one day when he was out of the room I turned it all on and started mixing. Dad caught me and started filming. He put the videos on his socials, then made me a page for fun.

When other artists saw me DJing they contacted dad and asked to come round. MC Neat was one of the first. Those videos went viral and the rest is history. I’ve been DJing ever since. I love music and the way it makes me feel inside.

Please let us know your next gig dates, and release schedule if you have anything coming out soon

I’m playing in Las Vegas in September on the 14th (Ed – very nice..)

What is your home DJ tech set up currently?

2 x Pioneer CDJ-3000 and an A9 mixer. I also have 2 x Technics 1210 and Phase DJ controllers running Rekordbox.

What do you most often play out these days?

Drum and Bass & Jungle

What DJ tech did you use in your early days?

First decks were Pioneer DDJ-SX2. Then I upgraded to an SX3. Then a Pioneer DDJ-1000. (Ed – This is quite the tech progression in a short period)

What’s on the tech shopping list?

I need a third 3000 so I can triple drop. I’d also like some production equipment. MIDI keyboard and audio interface plus some type of sample pad unit.

What’s been your favourite ever gig?

Glastonbury was really cool as I got to spend the whole week there with my dad. We had a great time listening to all the DJs. I also got to meet my hero Andy C. I danced on stage with Tonn Piper his MC for the whole set. I even put him on FaceTime to my mum after. She was so shocked and didn’t know what to say. (Ed – Love this!)

Throughout your career is there a piece of equipment that you have just never got on with?

Not really I kind of just find a way to figure stuff out. Because I’m so small it’s more things like the height of the booth that troubles me. I’ve had to carry a step to reach the decks for a long time. (Ed – We can think of a few adult DJs who still need to do this!)

From a DJing point of view what do you always take to a gig apart from USB and headphones obviously!

I take extra connectors and wires and a phone charger plus a small camera stand and a gimbal. (Ed – Good advice)

I take a pen so I can sign autographs and also get them for myself and my DJ memory box.

Can you talk us through your productions? (If any)

I made a track called Fly Bobby with my good friend Marvellous Cain. It’s still unreleased. I’m also making a track with Benny Page and Dope Ammo. I’m just starting to learn to produce, luckily I have some very good teachers.

If you still have vinyl at home, how much?

I don’t own much vinyl just what’s been gifted to me. My dad’s got about 3,000 records though.

Outside of DJing and production, what tech do you use at home?

My PS5 gets the most action and my phone.

Can you let us know three apps that are essential to you?

Beatport
SoundCloud
Instagram

What app would you like to spread the word about?

I use Capcut a lot to edit videos and post them on my secret TikTok account.

What non-music related product can’t you live without?

I like my scooter and BMX bike. I also have a dirt bike as I like going fast. Right now though I can’t live without a football. I love playing football at home and with my friends and this week I’m going to football camp to learn more skills.

Any DJs or producers that we should watch out for?

Terrence and Phillip are producers out of Australia and they make bangers as standard. Luude who is a DJ and producers also out of Australia. I met him at Tomorrowland this year and he knows how to get a party started. What he did to the Atmosphere stage was incredible. He’s also a super nice guy.

Been to any great clubs or events recently?

Tomorrowland was amazing! I loved playing there and can’t wait to go back.

Football team

Me my dad and brother all support the best team in London, Arsenal FC (Ed – Hmmm..)

Book Recommendation?

Guinness World Record annual. I get one each year.  (Ed – Classic. Especially when you are in it)

Thanks to Archie for doing the world’s youngest DJ interview with DJWORX

To say we are impressed by Archie’s skills, and what he has achieved so far is an understatement. We also interviewed DJ Elfigo another up and coming young DJ recently. Old guard watch out!
