I had to check my calendar when this PR arrived from Reloop. Back in the days of skratchworx, rack mounted units were still a thing, and released on a regular basis. But confirming the date, it’s definitely not 10 years ago, and it seems that Reloop has identified a need for rack mount CD units in this decade, thus the RMP-1700 RX is coming your way soon.

As crazy as it sounds, there’s still a significant body of DJs who routinely play out with CDs. They have no need for vast libraries of every track ever made, and the bulk of their popular tracks can probably be held in a wallet. And it’s highly likely that they’re not frequent visitors to these pages either.
But old gear breaks, and at a time where the popular suppliers of rack mounts are focussed on digital controllers, CD guys need replacements. And if they’re happy with CDs, the punters are dancing, and the bills are being played, then who’s to blame them?
Having dual USB ports, they can also use digital files too, they’re not shut out of all that is good a great in the digital world. And you can plug in an external devices via RCA input. There’s even a remote.
No it’s not glamorous, and yes this is very last decade, but it’s still a versatile unit for a great many people. Not everything needs to be a game changer. Sometimes it’s fun to keep on playing the same game.
This decade? Denon PRO has a few rack mount players 1U that are about the same price. And in this decade, why can’t i put in a cd and rip to USB… something these players sure could use with todays medialess computers. If they can record to MP3, then they should be able to RIP to MP3 as well. This would make these wanted all over the place. Maybe put in an ethernet connection – studios and radio stations would be picking these up in tons.
Right now, Denon DJ only lists the DN-D4500MK2, which is £459 as opposed to £300. Granted that is for a dual unit though.
Look at Denon PRO not DJ. Here ya go :)

That’s quite a range there, but it doesn’t look like they have pitch control or jog wheels.
Ah but yer basic old school DJ probably wouldn’t need a pitch control anyway – no mixing.
They’d play every track all the way through and be on the mic in between. “That was ABBA and here’s the Rolling Stones”. :-)
True and I dj that way for most jobs and mix when I want to have fun. Fade one tune into the next… but nail the track selection
If it has pitch & jog wheels, it would be generally used in pairs as you can’t mix with just one source, so….
Then you would need two of them :(
Don’t see only about Djs. There are many bar, fitness centers, small theater, rental company etc.. that still need these units. Moreover Reloop is international company with many distributors around globe that probably need this unit (guys there still many place with limited access to expensive laptop). This unit fulfill catalogue of Reloop, don’t cost a lot in term of R&D (let’s say zero) and is easy to sell in some countries.
I was offered an old numark twin CD player system recently and had to say much as I respect it as a workhorse piece of kit at one time… I have no use for it. Much prefer a large digital library for most djing. Good to see manufacturers still catering for “legacy” formats and still remembering their core audience of mobile djs and similar
I understand the need for this. I honestly can’t understand why they don’t bring forth the technology of today with it though. A cd tray in this day & age makes absolutely no sense, it almost seems like this unit is a repackaged old model with updated firmware to accommodate usb. Is there any kind of loop adjust for in & out points? or any way to actually do a file search? If there is a pitch control, then the intent is (generally) for mixing… so you need to buy 2 of these then (I don’t get it). While there is a need in the market for this, I think with a little bit of effort one could find an better alternative. The Numark CDN77USB is the first that comes to mind. I really like Reloop’s products, but it feels like this unit wasn’t properly thought through.
This is for the pubs, plain and simple.. and I bet they will sell well, many old stacks of half-dead denons out there in the worlds pubs.. new pub owners will paint the walls, get new furniture and upgrade to these no doubt.
Call me a snod or whatever but I will never be missing playing on these.. Although I bet these will make many a goa trance DJ from the 90 shed a nostalgic tear or two.
Yawn
I can dig it. Both for staging companies that need music to play between bands and for the small bars. Hopefully a better unit than Denon’s old hdj’s. Those things broke constantly.
