Pioneer DJ’s new DDJ-SZ-N shiny is shiny.

It's NAMM time, thus Pioneer roll out the limited edition of somethingorother, this time applying the midas touch to the DDJ-SZ. Just 1000, so be quick.

Pioneer DDJ-SZ-N Gold DJ Controller (1)

As an untrained blogger with just an O Level in English experienced journalist, I am blessed with the gift of artistic licence when it comes to writing in my mother tongue. Thus “shiny” is a figurative word I roll out to denote brand new gear, but it seems that Pioneer are taking this word figuratively and literally in one go with the limited edition DDJ-SZ-N, a short run of 1000 regular DDJ-SZs, but given the shiny Gold once-over.

Of course, there is PR to go with this, although bar the colour, the unit is unchanged:

Solid Gold: DDJ-SZ, the ultimate controller for Serato DJ,
is available in Gold Limited Edition

The top-of-the-range DDJ-SZ four-channel controller for Serato DJ is now even more desirable, as Pioneer DJ releases the limited run Gold Edition. Named the ‘Ultimate DJ Controller 2014’ by DJ Mag Tech Awards, the professional four-channel DDJ-SZ is the first controller to mirror the CDJ-2000NXS set-up for the most intuitive Serato DJ performances yet. Now Pioneer DJ is making just 1,000 units available worldwide in a stylish gold finish, each engraved with its unique serial number.

The DDJ-SZ-N Gold Edition is available from March 2015 at an SRP of EUR €2199/£1749 including VAT.

Aaaand they’re gone

This just in – all units have been snapped up by dealers in the space of an hour. Thus in the blink of an eye, Pioneer DJ just shifted around two million of your local currency in DJ gear. So they’ll definitely be in shops in March and will set you back €2199/£1749.

    • It’s one of those “so-ugly-they-become-beautiful-again” things in my mind. I do wonder why they brought this out instead of the white version? And if there is one I would snapbuy it would be a chrome version (like the 2KNXS). I think that would look killer on this.

  1. I knew this was coming when they first showed the original. Will the price be the same like they did with ddj-sx? I was at my local guitar center and they had a stack pile of the gold original sx on sale. I was about to grab one and then I remember the sz was on the way. So I stop myself. I later got the sz, tried it out and then sold it the following week.

  2. Ugly. They must be running out of “innovative” ideas. If they wanted to do a limited edition, they should have added a new effect or something to make it unique. Otherwise it’s just another color.

    • I’m sure the innovation is sat in a lab or maybe on a production line as we speak. But companies can’t always innovate and shouldn’t be expected to. This is just another colour, and unashamedly so. It still doesn’t compute that they’d manage to shift 1000 of these.

      • I agree, it is ugly. But they are innovating at the same time. Pioneer always does this, and next year there will probably be a chrome one coming alongside their new effects module, mixer or controller.

        • Limited Edition usually means there is a few extra features not found on the regular versions, changing the paint color doesn’t satisfy the “LIMITED EDITION” stamp.

A slate grey would have been a better color option.

You don’t see APPLE coming out with LIMITED EDITION IPAD COLORS ??? They have Product(RED) in some things but these are not called LIMITED EDITION…..

Maybe “LIMITED RUN” would have been a better choice.

          • Well, it is a limited edition design, I guess? Or something. I don’t disagree with you, that the limited edition announcements should be followed with something that makes it more limited than a color, but this is Pioneer’s MO, unfortunately.

  3. “Thus in the blink of an eye, Pioneer DJ just shifted around two million of your local currency in DJ gear’

So, three months time for the white version and 6 months the Platinum Version……… Gotta hand it to them, Pioneer know how to generate a profit £££££££

  4. I want a Platinum/Silver and Black color scheme. Gold is just too gaudy, and besides, it doesn’t look good w’ all those other colors. Silver, however, would make the other colors pop!!

    Are you listening, Pioneer?
