MixEmergency 3.1 brings NDI input and output

Inklen's MixEmergency 3.1 throws itself at the new open standard of NDI for sharing video data. Now performers can share resources on a network.

It’s great to see Inklen’s MixEmergency getting an update to v3.1. This time it’s not creative features but is all about workflow, specifically sharing video across a network.

Some words, then some more:

MixEmergency 3.1 is available now. MixEmergency 3.1’s new NDI input and output allows you to stream video over your local network to MixEmergency or other software acting as an NDI destination. Use NDI input and output to mix video between computers for easily changing between Video DJs, mixing with 3 or more decks, sending your mix to a VJ, sending your mix to professional video production software, etc. Download the update here >>

Inklen MixEmergency 3.1 NDI

NDI? Yeah — I had to look it up too. It stands for Network Device Interface, but essentially NewTek has come up with a way of sharing resources via IP addresses. This technology is definitely more for video production companies, but in the case on MixEmergency, this means different video performers can share inputs and outputs, meaning that VJs can easily swap over and perform at the same time.

I love it when companies develop open format protocols that everyone can benefit from. I wonder if there’s a way that NDI could be used for audio too? Could this be a way to solve the thorny issue of changeovers?
