El Capitan beta breaks Pioneer, but fixes Rane

While Pioneer DJ said that the latest El Capitan beta kills their gear, Rane is happy to announce that their mixers are fixed in the next release.

El Capitan beta breaks Pioneer, but fixes Rane

Apple’s El Capitan is proving to be a huge pain in the arse for the DJ industry. Having seen Pioneer DJ issue a message of doom and gloom about how the latest beta release of 10.11.4 will break their stuff with Serato software (since fixed), it turns out that the next release of El Capitan is exactly what Rane users need right now to fix their Serato life. Go figure.

I have a Rane MP25 that I use to handle my assorted audio needs in the Worxlab, but that and many other audio interfaces have been borked since I installed El Capitan. Luckily, my Focusrite Forte has continued to give sterling service through all of Apple’s experiments. But now Rane has issued a splendidly detailed account, updated on March 9th of their fun and games with El Capitan. And it seems that the beta that broke Pioneer DJ is the panacea for Rane’s woes.

That said, I really wouldn’t recommend putting a beta OS (note — it’s not even public) on a mission critical computer, and Rane will only support OS X 10.11.4 when it’s a full release. But I really would suggest reading their log to get a better idea of the roller coaster ride that continues to be El Capitan.

  1. El Cap’s been out for months and had a months-long beta period. If you don’t have competent programmers maybe you shouldn’t be building devices that require them.

    • Sounds like you’re laying blame at Rane’s feet?

If so, per Mark’s suggestion, you should read the knowledge base record linked in the article above.

(TL;DR – this issue is with 10.11.x implementation of the Core Audio subsystem within OS X and affects devices designed as Core Audio-based USB devices. Other/newer devices aren’t affected because they’re design as “class compliant” as prescribed by the USB IF)

  2. Your headline is misleading as it DOES NOT fix Rane. All these are still fecked:

    Sixty-One MP25 SL2
    Sixty-Two MP26 SL3
    Sixty-Four MP2015 SL4
    Sixty-Eight TTM57mkII
    SL2
    SL3
    SL4
    MP25
    MP26

So that will be MOST of their common DJ gear still fecked

  4. Get your shit together companies! You make enough money from the sales to have a staff that quickly fixes bugs when a new OS is out. Just laziness

  5. So many issues with software in general, and from what most of the problems seem to stem from is the changes Apple or Windows make. It seems software developers just can’t keep up. I really wonder who is actually to blame?
Most of the posts from irritated users of music software seem to blame the software developers.
