[VIDEO] April Fool ends up with Traktor possessed by… something…

The next version of Traktor is in the hands of very lucky people, one of which is our Ray aka Arkaei. And while trying to create an April fool, he stumbled across something very interesting. Is Traktor machine learning? Possessed by digital demons? Or is it something else?

Our Ray is quite the dabbler. And being in the VIP elite testing crew, he’s got access to new versions of Traktor Scratch Pro that the rest of us mere mortals don’t (not empty words — I don’t have it yet).

But he may have dabbled one step too far, and has uncovered some undocumented/secret/supernatural type stuff. Watch as Ray explains how we were going to do an April Fool called “Yondu Mode”, but instead uncovered… something very cool indeed.

I suggest you watch the intro first (yes, “Yondu Mode” actually works), but it’s the rest of the video (starting at about 5 minutes in) that is the most interesting. Nutshell version — Ray has unleashed the deepest parts of his frontal lobe (probably fuelled buy his trademark coffee) and created something quite amazing using a future version of Traktor Scratch Pro. Think Jazzy Jeff’s scratch pads on steroids Ray’s trademark coffee.

Ergo, what you see is real, and Ray walks you through every step of it in great detail. But what’s actually going on? Speculation ahoy via deniers, wild guessers, and educated reasoners in 3… 2… 1…

  1. As is sometimes usual, Dubby loses my non-technical mind a few sentences in. But these comments are like a DJ mystery movie starring Tom Cruise – fascinating and entertaining! I can’t stop reading!

  2. I recently thought that it should be relatively easy to program a step sequencer, similar to the one in Massive, that would instead spit out timecode envelopes allowing to control any sample in a DVS. But I don’t have time to look deeper into it.

  3. The only unusual thing I can see is Rane Sixty Eight mixer working with traktor scratch so Arkei is using traktor hack or beta verison don’t have to be used with certified soundcard or certified mixer or future traktor will be opened to any soundcard :)

  4. Me neither just wondering… anyways I sold my mac mini 2 years ago and everytime I install something djing-istic in my iPad it lives less than a week in it.
To much fun with BlocsWave and BM3 to care about traktor (or the other old apps I was using like Ableton)
Good luck with your IA catching! ;)

  5. I’ve no idea how this is happening but it got me thinking – being able to set cue points in a playing deck to trigger another deck which is able to play a beat sync midi scratch recorded sequence would be really cool. Especially if you could do this with vocal phrases.

  6. Hah… can’t come up with shit, so let’s talk shit instead – life purpose found. There’s always gonna be people like that, just ignore him.

BTW, what you said could totally be done with any DVS. But it would require some minor hacking. I could do a vid or live stream about that once I figure it out.
