Turntablists aren’t the most vocal of people. They’re generally shy introverts, preferring a more heads down approach, usually letting their hands do the talking for them. Now we’ve seen emcees like Edan take to the decks and juggle their own backing set while rhyming. But multiple DMC title winning Asian Hawk is taking turntablism to a new level, by singing over his own music. Presenting “Turntable Soul”, the new single from Asian Hawk.
Having scanned the DMC rules, I can’t find anything that explicitly forbids crooning during a 6 minute set. The revolution is coming.
Why are people still scratching?
Because it sounds fantastic.
Because it’s an expressive art form.
Aaah…….fresh……fr…..fr…..fresh…….aaah…….aaahhhh……fresh….etc.
Yeah, very artistic.
:-)
Every art form has a beginning …
obvsly u dont skratch or you wouldn’t be spouting this nonsense
Well “obvsly u” missed the smiley.
FYI I did my fair share of scratching – decades ago, when it first came to the attention of DJs in the UK. My nickname then was Scratcher (given to me by Tony Hodges). These days, very rarely – it doesn’t go down too well at weddings.
apologies for the misinterpretation then.
i scratch i think for the most part people arent doing art when they stick to ah and fresh
Why not?
The above = talented dude. Cool stuff.
Reminds me of Jamie Woon

I really like it. It’s nice to see a soloist flipping what t rationally has been singing with a guitar and a stomp-box to what you see in this demonstration. Good stuff!
