TEASER: DJ Player Pro for iOS — with Stems

More giving the game away than teasing, but Gábor from DJ Player has put out another video, this time showing DJ Player Pro on iOS, and with Stems.

A few weeks ago, we were sent a teaser video by Gábor Szántó of DJ Player fame that showed something pretty cool that didn’t look too much like the version of the iOS app. We all tossed around some guesses, and while some were wide of the mark, others were close. And despite being thrown off the scent in my first email to Gábor, it would appear that Stems are hitting DJ Player. But not just any old DJ Player, for what we see in the above video is in fact DJ PLAYER PRO.

Again, Gábor is being coy about exactly what DJ Player Pro will mean, but you can see full control over each stem, with volume, filter, and effects per stem, with simple double taps to reset each one. Nice.

Notably, this is before Native Instruments has managed to implement Stems properly in either Traktor Pro or Traktor DJ. I’ll only consider it properly implemented when I can see stems in my laptop screen. But I do admire Gábor’s approach to things. Instead of waiting, he just goes ahead and works it all out for himself, and gets a head start on everyone else.

Good work sir. Keep it coming.

  1. Why hasn’t this man been hired by NI or Serato or Algoriddim or Cross or somebody! Although, on second thought, with him working for himself, we get these great features knocked while those guys are still thinking about it…

    • Because most of the #realdjing defenders rant over nothing but vinyl so DVS are cheat and ipads directly toys.

With this mindset how much profit you expect in develop an iOS app focused towards these djs?

It is a matter of target. Let’s make a brief…

Serato control focused towards complement laptop set and DVS lovers => Die hard HipHop djs from SSL days merged with the emerging controllerist drove by sites like this or djtt (the change from Scratchworx to more open focus Djworx could be an argument of these shift in market even in USA). From old school Rane owners to Akai amx mobiledjs…

Djay focus towards controllers with nice skeumorphic UI => Regular mobile profesional dj who needs portability and nice UI to show clients.

Traktop app towards expand the platforms with the same controllerism paradigm over old turntable paradigm => Drop jogs… Ejem pioneer… or connect S2/4 mk2 directly and drop laptop at home) use touchscreen, manage your library (well they try until drop it)

Cross towards be relevant in tablet market (android too) due they are the black swan in desktop (even becoming a great developer) => Android users, iOS users nowheres land (sorry)

Vdj8 the same in the oppositte direction than Cross. They should merge their business and make the best of booth for desktop and tablets.

Ms.Pinky towards old school (no sync, no sampler, no midi bells and whistles) no So much detailed UI (which is great from performance focus but see it as toy from wannabes and old school djs)… similar to djplayer but in different times => focused to scratch and vinyl lovers but reticent to sync, to sequence, to midi clock, to vj… Improvement but with a small target focus which delay the reception.

Ableton live towards desktop and maxforlive => touchable, lemur and others do the job as controller (like serato control) and tablet can’t host these requeriments (maybe a surface or ipad pro?)

The business is in hardware with thight integration from sound card as dongle to rgb pads and screens… What can offer djplayer in this scenario?

Only the best app for the small target in the market. I love it but I don’t use it so much because it doesn’t fit better my needs than others like traktor/djay for mixing, vidivox/vjay for vjing, LoopyHD/launchpad for loop based shows…

      Addendum:
I’m getting ready a new project with old friend MC which wants to present its new album and the first thing he drop after years of “classical hiphop set” is the turntable. Maybe I will test djplayer as master player but our focus is towards remix decks for live act mash juggle impro where the MC gets the control of the playlist get him free to loop phrases, live composotion, fx glitch and asap generative video merged with videosampling… And I’m considering keep the turntable for player control and try to enrolle old school mind people into new times but hey! with ipads which are toys!

  3. Don’t wait for this version to drop if you haven’t already used DJ Player. If you’re serious about iPad DJing, grab the current version now. What ever the full version costs, it’s more than worth the money. Once you spend some time with it, you’ll appreciate all the hard work that was put into that app. Just the fact that it records internally to stereo .wav files is worth the price of admission but there’s way more to it. The current version is already Pro as heck. It’s far and away the only pro DJ app available.
