So… funny story. Post BPM, we were due to shoot a complex performance video today before Ray went home to Germany. But for reasons that we internally call #raysfault, this couldn’t happen. So what could we do to kill some time? Oh yeah – break out the Numark NV that’s sat in a box and try to replicate Ray’s previous NS7II performance.
It’s fair to say that he pulled it off very admirably. And the video itself is pretty cool too — three hours start to finish. It’s worth pointing out that the Numark NV unit we have was sent to us with old firmware accidentally installed, hence us not rushing out a review. We will of course review it, and it will be epic. But in the meantime, enjoy Ray’s adaptation of his old performance on this new hardware.
Pretty cool tricks! Which effect he uses at 2:15? Thanks
Looproll 1/8 + Shifter LoFi. Maybe we should do a complete walkthough of the routine?
Yes please
Plus 1
That would be cool.
That would be fantastic.
nice, platters look al little small for my massive clumsy hands though
Oh, I agree – if you want to scratch, you’re obviously much better off with the NS7//. This was just to show that size doesn’t really matter if you know what you’re doing – with a bit of practice (and motivation) you can do cool stuff on any controller.
I love watching performances like this where subtle things are done to a track that sound organic, that looks like a great piece of kit regardless of the platters. I don’t scratch but unfortunately I’m still stuck in the rut of using platters for cueing and adjusting pitch on tracks so I like them to be larger CDJ size as I’m not the most agile either
Are the FX knobs touch sensitive or do you have to press them?? That’s a properly cool feature
Just like the NS7//, the NV has capacitive knobs – you can activate FX just by touching them. It’s an option you can turn on and off from the unit. You can see me doing that at 0:26.
well for me that’s the game changer on this controller not the screens, I wasn’t aware you could no it on the NS7-2, absolutely fantastic feature which used correctly could produce some amazing multi layered effects
Yeah, it’s pretty much the exact same routine. I did one or two minor things differently – but I haven’t really performed it since Musikmesse, which was half a year ago ;)
Also – this was done in two takes and took maybe 3 hours from pushing record to uploading the finished edit… hehe.
Anyway, I appreciate your feedback. I’ll look into doing a proper walkthrough as soon as I can!
really awesome routine! very keen to know what effects are being triggered and how…
No worries, we’ll think of something.
i wanna watch hackers now :)
HACK THE PLANET! HACK THE PLANET! :)
Awesome routine! What effects do you have loaded on 1 & 2?
How about this: I’ll do a full walkthrough video as soon as I can get my hands on the NV again.
Or do a walkthrough on the NS7, since this is the same routine? :)
The NV is a little easier to get into frame ;)
Did no one else notice the file names LOL? Cool routine :D
Pretty damned special!!
Damn we missed the cookies !
So the S8 NI response is almost here! Just saw the vid! Yeehaa!
Fantastic routine Arkaei. Please can someone tell me what those tracks are? I’m dying to get hold of that Rock the Funky Beats remix…
