SHOWCASE: Cheeba’s TouchOSC setup

The iPad has a place in every DJ's setup. And as DJ Cheeba shows, he uses his with TouchOSC to control key elements of his setup from a single screen.

There’s an understandable mentality of technology exclusivity in the DJ scene. By this I mean that you can use this or that and stick very firmly inside the increasingly blurred lines of demarkation. But at DJWORX, we’re very much about this AND that, and this is perfectly illustrated in DJ Cheeba’s setup where the iPad is the glue that binds it all together.

Using TouchOSC, Cheeba has defined his one layouts to pull together all the key MIDI elements he needs to pull off his performance. It’s Serato heavy, with the Rane Sixty Two as the heart, running Scratch Live and Serato Video, but everything he needs is on a single layout.

Everything you need to know about Cheeba’s setup — complete with downloads — is detailed in this ridiculously comprehensive post on his website. It would be very cool if this inspired some to view the iPad more kindly as an additional DJ tool rather than thinking of it as the great usurper of real DJing. Remember — this AND that.

    • yeah, it definitely helps when doing video shows. I can much more easily double up the software fx with the hardware fx, access quickfire transition selects and add to that walk around the stage wirelessly drumming and twiddling midi like im Slash. Should try it, its fun.
