Mix Master Mike – not just a Serato Icon

Another true icon from Serato - Mix Master Mike smashes it hard

Watch and learn. This is why I’m a DJ – watching a true craftsman perform their craft with passion inspires me to do the same thing. And watching Serato’s current icon Mix Master Mike properly smash it with his tools of choice is nothing short of awe inspiring.

This is the kind of video that will be watched by some young buck who will aspire to do the very same thing. If a handful of new DJs can go away and try to do what Mike does here, then Serato’s marketing budget has been well spent.

Over the years, I have seen many DJs of all sorts of genres do all manner of performances. But few do it with the personality and outright power of Mix Master Mike. He has a signature sound, something missing from so many DJs. What comes across is the passion, the energy and character. He just goes for it, grabs you by the ears and doesn’t let go until he’s left you breathless.

And as if this performance wasn’t enough, you can grab the longer version over at the Serato site. You can also read the full blurb and interview right here.

Screw this writing lark – where are my decks?

  1. A big inspriration to many, less technical than D-Styles but tons of more energy and capable of rocking big crowds without crossing over to more acceptable club music. He doesn’t need to play it safe. Most DJs have to cause otherwise club owners will fire them. He can do what he wants wich is the definition of a true winner.
DJs who follow trends are the opposite aka sheep.

  2. This guy definitely inspires me to get a turntable setup and start practicing. Just saw entire routine on serato.com and his name says it all.

  3. I have to be careful watching things like this at work, seeing him at Reading 98′ with the Beastie Boys was what made me want to get turntables – now i just want to bust out of work to practice instead.
