Maesic interview – French superstar DJ and producer

Who is Maesic? The 30 second intro

Hey, my name is Emeric Boxall, also known as Maesic. I’m 26 years-old, born in London, and grew up in a small village in the south of France. I’ve been producing music for 13 years and DJing for three-four years now. I recently put out a new single “Ripsaw” with my friends at Kitsuné Musique, which definitely has a ‘French Touch’ influence.

How would most people know you? (What are you most well known for?)

I’m probably best-known for my producing credits – working with artists such as Diplo, Anyma, Blondish, Major Lazer – or for my own original music and hit song “Life Is Simple” (Move Your Body).” Listen here: https://open.spotify.com/track/6sgYrldk8IdtSERq4eGZj1 – (Ed – We’ve been playing Life is Simple at our gigs for some months now. Where are you based, and do you have any regular gigs?

I’m based in Paris, France and yes, I have been touring globally all throughout the year and have even more shows planned in 2026.

Please let us know your next gig dates, and release schedule if you have anything coming out soon

I have a new song in the works with Disco Lines that I think my fans will be super stoked to hear. More info on that will be dropping soon. Also, my next track will be released in January with Kilimanjaro. I’m really excited about this one! My upcoming shows in Aspen start on December 20th, and I’ll be playing with Diplo that same evening at the Snow Lodge.

Next up, I’m heading to Europe for New Year’s Eve. I’ll be back in the states in January, and will stay put until March for Tomorrowland Winter in France. I’ll also be heading to Spain to play Mad Cool festival over the summer. It’s going to be a very, very busy, but awesome year ahead.

What’s been your favourite ever gig?

I actually don’t have one single favorite gig; I like them all. They are all different in their own way, but a standout moment was playing with Diplo recently at Art Basel Miami.

Why did you decide to become a DJ and/or producer?

I decided to become a producer and DJ because I’ve always loved spending hours on my computer, geeking out, and tweaking knobs. Also, on the DJ side, playing and receiving the live energy of the crowd is amazing.

Maesic Interview - DJWORX

What DJ tech did you use in your early days? (We’d love to see some photos!)

My first ever mixer was Hercules DJ AIR. (We reviewed this way back when, the below is not an image of the one Maesic learnt on!)

Hercules Air S Air S+ DJ Controller (2)

What is your home DJ tech set up currently?

I don’t own any DJ equipment myself, so I just use a laptop to produce. (Ed – Bet you weren’t expecting that answer!)

What do you most often play out on these days?

Pioneer CDJ-3000 with a V10 mixer is the best combination.

What’s on the tech shopping list?

Maybe a new MacBook actually because mine is getting filled, and some plugins!

Throughout your career is there a piece of equipment that you have just never got on with?

Not really, no. I’ve never had any issues with the equipment I’ve used. (Ed – Lucky man Maesic!)

From a DJing point of view what three things do you always take to a gig apart from USB and headphones obviously!

I always take my custom-made earplugs. They’re life-saving for my ears and very important when you are in clubs all the time. Then probably a hat and some perfume, haha. Ed – We covered custom made earplugs recently

Can you talk us through your productions? (If any)

I’m really proud of all my production work, so it’s hard to choose just one to call out, but I really love “Closer To You” by Major Lazer & Jung Kook that I worked on. (Ed – We love this)

If you are a producer, what is your tech stack?

Ableton 12, one MacBook and Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones. – (Ed – The message here is “what’s stopping you?”)

Where would you like to see DJ or production hardware and software go in the future?

I’d like to see more AI incorporated into DJ and production hardware and software to make the music creation process easier. (Ed – Can of worms there Maesic!)

If you still have vinyl at home, how much?

Nope, I do not.

Any DJs or producers that we should watch out for?

Keep an eye on Samson and Jean Marc! They are both incredible. (Ed – Thanks, we will check them out)

Outside of DJing and production, what tech do you use at home?

To be honest, I’m never at home and don’t use anything else other than my laptop. I don’t watch TV and don’t listen to music outside of producing, which sounds insane, but that’s the truth. I love silence.

Can you let us know three apps that are essential to you?

FLIGHTY, Songstats, and Gmail.

What app would you like to spread the word about?

FLIGHTY is great for tracking your flights and every detail about the aircraft, any delays, etc. It’s perfect for artists like myself who are constantly traveling. (Ed – Agreed, Flighty is very useful. Link above)

Maybe this is a super predictable answer, but my phone, I guess.

Have you been to any great clubs or events recently, either as an artist or in the crowd?

Yes! I went to Space in Miami to see Black Coffee, and to be honest, what a vibe. Also, this summer, Isabelle Festival in St. Tropez with Marco Carola was insane.

Do you have a favourite sports team?

PSG!! (Paris Saint-Germain).

Do you have any book recommendations?

Yes, a book that everyone should read once or multiple times is ‘The Four Agreements’ (Ed – Thanks Maesic, link here)
