Game changer alert
From the AlphaTheta press release.
September 24th, 2025: AlphaTheta announces that its DJ software, rekordbox for Mac/Windows, now supports playback from Spotify. Spotify is the world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service, offering over 100 million tracks with billions of playlists in various genres.
With this update, using a Spotify Premium account, you can now access Spotify’s extensive music catalog and playlists directly from rekordbox for Mac/Windows and mix them with tracks from your rekordbox music library. Choose songs directly from Spotify and play them on all compatible DJ equipment when using Performance mode in rekordbox for Mac/Windows – including any AlphaTheta or Pioneer DJ setup – whether you’re practicing at home or playing for friends and family.
Now’s the time to experience the seamless integration between rekordbox and Spotify, unlocking a new level of freedom and creativity in music selection.
From the Serato press release
direct integration of Spotify into Serato DJ Lite and Pro. By linking their Spotify Premium and Serato accounts, DJs can seamlessly access Spotify’s library of over 100 million tracks, as well as their saved playlists – both publicly and personally curated – directly within Serato DJ Pro and Serato DJ Lite. DJs can stream and mix tracks from Spotify in real time, with support for up to four-deck playback simultaneously. This milestone delivers Serato’s #1 most requested feature to date, giving DJs of every level the freedom to curate, prepare, and play like never before.
For the first time, DJs will be able to:
- Unlock Spotify’s Catalog of 100M+ Tracks for Mixing in Serato DJ: Seamlessly mix your liked songs and curated playlists, with access to Spotify’s extensive array of tracks and playlists.
- Curate Music on the Go in Spotify’s Mobile App, Synced Directly to Serato DJ: Spotify Premium users can build and update playlists on the Spotify mobile app, then find them directly within their Serato DJ library.
- Jumpstart Inspiration with Publicly and Personally Curated Playlists: Access personal playlists or tap into Spotify’s billions of publicly curated playlists directly within Serato DJ, putting creative freedom at the heart of the Serato DJ experience.
We had all been hoping that this was going to happen, and the fairly recent Apple Music integrations built that hope. But it’s been a while since you could DJ with Spotify on DJay, and until it was confirmed today we hadn’t been holding out breath. But it’s finally happened, and this is big news.
You can now directly stream Spotify alongside Apple Music, Tidal, Beatport, Beatsource, and SoundCloud. The future is here.
This isn’t good news for the converter service options like Soundiiz, but for us DJs it’s the one most have been waiting for. It’s also going to increase the number of requests you get every gig exponentially.
Whats Missing?
Engine, Virtual DJ and Traktor for a start.
Also there is no way to store files offline, so you need an internet connection. (This rules out Berghain for now). Stems. Stems. Stems.
