Who is DJ Paul Linney? The 30 second intro
I’m DJ Paul Linney, married with 4 grown up boys, two of whom I spin with. I am a full time DJ working all round the world including Bali, Zanzibar, Montenegro, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Turkey and Ibiza. I have played at events from The National Television Awards at the O2 to Freddie Rocks at Pikes winning the best one off event on Ibiza three years in a row.
How would most people know you? (What are you most well known for?)
I am known for selecting music that makes people dance irrespective of genre

Where are you based, and do you have any regular gigs?
Based near Windsor. I play most Wednesday nights at Novikov in Mayfair, am Musical Director at Putney Pies so book the DJ’s and play every other month. Also found at Fabric, The Cross, Aures and Q-Shoreditch on a regular basis.

What’s been your favourite ever gig?
6 hours in the main Room at Fabric (Ed – Not bad at all….)
Why did you decide to become a DJ and/or producer?
40 years ago – I was manager of Chertsey Lock – a 600 capacity club by Chertsey Bridge, where we had Rusty Egan from Visage and The Blitz, Greg Edwards from Radio 1 and Chris Hill from Lacy Lady play monthly. One weekend one of them could not get to us because of snow, however, we still had a full club expecting music……. It was a case of having too and I loved it.
What DJ tech did you use in your early days? (We’d love to see some photos!)
Garrard turntables with Citronic mixer – not sure cameras had been invented then (Ed – He’s joking!!)

Traktor with Z1 and X1 through a Pioneer DJM 900
What do you most often play out on these days?
Traktor with Z1 and X1 through a Pioneer DJM
What’s on the tech shopping list?
MK3 versions of Z1 and X1
Throughout your career is there a piece of equipment that you have just never got on with?
No always loved the challenge of Tech
From a DJing point of view what three things do you always take to a gig apart from USB and headphones obviously!
Spare USB / drive, spare cable, comfortable footwear, my sets are on average 5 hours (Ed – The last point in particular is a good one. Leave the stilletos at home everyone)
Can you talk us through your productions? (If any)
I mainly produce my own re-edits
If you are a producer, what is your tech stack?
Ableton with outboard Korg MS2000, Arp 2600, Model D, Neutron, Roland JV1080, Crave, Maschine and Deepmind12

If you still have vinyl at home, how much?
The whole of the basement is full of it. I also Have Pete Walshe’s record collection there too (Ed – We love the sound of this!)

I have a nice sounding Cinema Room, with REL subs you can properly feel
