And here’s another 3rd party review of Club Ready DJ School

Who is the owner of Club Ready DJ School?

Andrew Duffield is a legend on the DJ tutor scene due to his Club Ready DJ School. Find out what makes him tick, his tech and tech journey he has taken to this point.

What made you decide to be a DJ?

I was going clubbing every single weekend as a kid and the club I frequented shut down. There was a whole scene that was no longer being catered for so I thought “there’s a gap in the market” and asked myself “what would it take to start my own nightclub”. I made a to do list and found a venue and then because I had a very clear idea for the event I decided to hire DJ decks and teach myself to DJ!! My first ever show was the grand opening of my club and that event went on to run every single Friday night for 12 years!!

Who are your biggest musical influences?

I grew up into alternative culture eg: Nirvana, Tool, Rage Against the Machine but later got into The Prodigy, then Wolfgang Gartner and more recently I like Space Motion, Vintage Culture and Rufus Du Sol (Ed – Check out the UNU remix of Killing in The Name)

How has your sound evolved over the years?

My sound is gradually getting chillier! I used to like music that was fairly intense and these days am even resonating with more downtempo vibes. My taste is actually pretty broad and I do like to go clubbing and have a good dance to tech house and melodic house and techno, but in saying that recently went to a Techno themed party and also have a soft spot for DNB! (Ed – There is a Club Ready DJ School video for just about every genre)

What was the best club you ever played at?

I was a weekly resident at my own clubs, but the launch of my event White Rabbit in Sydney Australia was epic. I had over 4000 people turn up to the grand opening! The venue wasn’t big enough to host everyone and the atmosphere was insane. I played the headline set from 11pm – 1am and the feeling was something I will never forget. Playing to big crowds that love what you do is a thrill, trust me, DJing is such a good way to connect with music and people and even better, bring them together.

What was the biggest crowd you are ever played to?

I played on a line up supporting The Presets and Sneaky Sound System (both big Australian artists at the time), at ANZ Stadium. There must have been 20,000 people there, that was scary but ultimately very fun – adrenaline stuff!!

What DJ equipment do you own / use?

I’ll use whatever’s in front of me but I am a Pioneer kid. I actually just bought the Pioneer / Alpha Thetas latest release the XDJ-AZ as I figure it has a lot of new features that will make good teaching material.

Have you ever looked into music production?

I did a course and learnt how to produce music using Ableton and I stood at the gateway of music production and saw that it was a rabbit hole – meaning you could get lost in there and to be a world class music producer you would need to invest a lot of time. I was already a nightclub promoter running weekly events and a resident DJ at those events and I decided my time would be better spent on running my clubs and DJing. (Ed – We hear this)

At one stage I had a touring line down the east coast of Australia running 3 events per week in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, so total 9 events per week. I had a team and loved the lifestyle. I ran clubs every single week for about 17 years. I have had a very colourful life full of experiences and am grateful for every single one and don’t regret not producing music yet have huge respect for all the music producers out there. It understand it takes real commitment and passion.

Why did you start Club Ready DJ School?

After about 15 years of running clubs every single weekend, multiple events per week, I started getting tired and was losing my passion. Around this time someone asked me to teach them how to DJ and I was intrigued what teaching someone would involve. I put together a program and then taught this guy, who loved it, and for the first time in a while I felt really inspired.

I decided, whilst continuing to run clubs, to start Sydney DJ School and built the Club Ready Course. After teaching 30 one on ones per week for over a year I had the idea to take it online and build Club Ready DJ School. This was a huge mission and actually took me over 3 years to build – including my YT channel.

I worked on this as a side hustle and it got very little results. Then covid hit and I was perfectly placed and the course and my YT channel took off. Since then I sold Sydney DJ School and moved up the east coast of Australia and now work full time on Club Ready DJ School – it’s my baby and to see the power of the course and how much it is inspiring and helping people worldwide warms my heart, I am actually really proud of myself and what I created and am so glad I persevered when everyone else close to me thought I was crazy!

Are all your classes online or do you teach in person?

Club Ready DJ School is all online yet I also run Byron Bay DJ School where I do in person classes for locals or people that are willing to travel to see me. (Ed – Very happy to do an in person follow up Andrew…)

What are your goals for 2025?

I am a motivated guy. For me it’s always about making constant and never ending improvements in every area of my life. I want to continue to release my resistances (past conditioning / wounds) and step into my power by being on-purpose, disciplined and equanimous (meaning don’t react to small shit and keep myself grounded in the present moment) – haha – yeah I know, I’m deeply into manifesting and spiritual woo woo stuff and believe we are conscious creators and whatever we identify with is our reality.

So I identify with creating killer content for you guys though my YT channel and mainly through constant updates to my course with the goal to make it the number 1 DJ Course in the world – haha no ego but!! I love what I do and share myself vulnerably. I realise in many ways I’m flawed yet I am aware and am always aiming to be better – for me, for my girl and for your guys! (Ed – This is exactly why we have teamed up with Andrew)

Why should people learn to DJ with you?

You should only learn to DJ with me if you feel a calling to. I’ll be honest, I other DJ courses teach the same thing and anyone that has taken the time needed to build a world class course has my admiration and respect. So when learning to DJ it’s really about finding a teacher you resonate with. If you resonate with the way I teach I can assure you the course and I will exceed all your expectations many times over and I if you do trust me to be your tutor I can assure you, you won’t regret it and I will inspire you to step into your power and live on purpose.

What advice would you give to aspiring DJs?

If you have an idea and feel passionate about it, trust it. Don’t talk yourself out of it. My whole life has been about following ideas that excite me, but then, once you’re committed you have to earn them and no doubt you will be tested, but on being tested – I have a quote when teaching people how to beat match that I feel applies to life “when you’re not sure you’re close” (this is in relation to which way you turn the jog-wheel lol).

Anyway if the idea is strong when you first get it, then I feel that idea or dream already exists within you and you just need to get out of your own way and allow it to come through you as an expression of who you are.

If you have doubts along the way know you are close so keep going as your power lies on the other side of your discomfort. Yes you’l have bad shows and sometimes you won’t want to get out of bed, but if you can commit to making constant and never ending improvements, no matter how small, in time this adds up and before long you won’t even recognise yourself. So my advice, if you have ideas, believe in them, believe in yourself and see them through to the end!
