By today's standards, vintage mixers are featureless lumps of trash. But we're still fascinated by them and want to know all about them. We successfully tracked down one used at the end of Hip Hop classic "Wild Style", and now we've managed to fulfil a couple of DJWORX community member's requests. Behold, the mixer used by Grandmaster Flash in the classic kitchen scene, and the one used in the Beat Street trailer.
While there have been many films about Hip Hop, few capture the original essence like Wild Style. It features all four elements of Hip Hop, and in particular gives glimpses of how DJs use to rock crowds when it was just about two turntables, a mixer, and emcees. Kenny Dope gathered together the beats used in the movie and packaged them all up into a 7" vinyl selection and a book. I want this so bad.
It's been a long hunt over many years, employing deep Google trawling and forensic Photoshop techniques. But finally, thanks to the Numark Facebook page and a response from a single DJ with a photo, the mixer used in the final scenes of classic Hip Hop movie Wild Style has been identified at last.
Old school mixer geeks - any idea what this mixer is from the film Wild Style? Help us so we can sleep at night.
