Trust us, we’ve read all of the books about the early days of the house scene.
Some raving books are great, others less so. But it’s rare for a book to actually add anything new to to overarching storyline that we all know and love.
And then this comes along. Rave New World by Kirk Field. Kirk was there. And he has a knack for a tale, making them believable and entertaining. The fact that he ended up writing for the biggest dance music magazines shows that we aren’t the only ones to feel this way.
Laugh out loud. Flinch in horror. Nod your head sagely in agreement. Pull a “didn’t know that” face. Rave New World Kirk Fields new book will cause all of these things to happen. It’s way too far away from Christmas to wait to put it on a Christmas list. Put it on your Summer read by the pool list. Or buy it now, you won’t regret it.
Sample paragraph
Fifteen bars, a swimming pool, the suspended DJ booth and the cobbled dancefloor stretched out before my eyes.
I had the World’s Biggest Club all to myself. I walked over to the swimming pool and was heartbroken to see empty plastic bottles and rubbish floating on its stagnant surface. The Kū statue was shackled by spider webs behind a glass case. It was devastating to see. Despite its dilapid- ation, the reverb inside the building was still cathedral-like. I couldn’t resist. I’d only get the chance to do this once. I strode to the middle of the room, took a deep breath and at the top of my voice started singing:
‘It’s 3 a.m., 3 a.m., it’s 3 a.m., etern-oh-oh-oh-oh-OH- HHHH . . .”
In a book packed full of interesting stories, the Ibiza dog story stands out. When the inevitable film is made we can’t wait to see how that plays out. Ginger Spice makes an appearance, loads of your favourite DJs as well, although we’d love to know who the TV news reader who loved a night out is. Bonus marks for the Raindance section, double bonus marks for the h/t to Jonathan and Eko. We remember “The Ravers Charter” and how that didn’t really play out once ego’s got involved, but it is all here.
We’re off to order some Berlin Wallpaper for a DJWORX office DIY project.

Book recommendations?
The paperback edit of rave new world has extra chapters, but the audiobook edit is my favourite as it has sound design and my number 1 record in Croatia as bonus content! I deliberately don’t read other rave books as I don’t want to be accused of plagiarism. But I can recommend Altered State by Matthew Collin which I read years ago. (Ed – Agreed – Altered State is excellent)
Thanks for your time Kirk! Top man, and top, top, top book.
