NAMM 2017: Gemini PMX-10 and PMX-20 MIDI Mixers 1

Gemini’s PMX mixer moniker has been around longer than some companies have been in existence. And they’ve moved with the times to make sure that the name has continued longevity too. So it’s good to see them take the next stage evolution to have all that is good in this current DJ world. The PMX-10 (2 channel) and PMX-20 (4 channel) are scratch friendly, Innofader ready, fully mappable MIDI mixers, complete with the de rigour banks of MIDI pads, send and receive loops, and filters too. I think I got everything.

A good chunk of words and specs follow:

PMX Mixer line from Gemini redefines modern DJ mixers

Anaheim, CA – January 19, 2017 – Gemini, the leading manufacturer of DJ and Pro Audio equipment, announced today their PMX-10 and PMX-20 Performance Mixers with MIDI. Covering both the turntablist and installation DJ markets, the PMX line of mixers bring a new comprehensive set of features to DJs everywhere.

The PMX-10 is a 2 channel mixer designed to meet the needs of the most demanding scratch addict, with a highly adjustable Innofader-ready crossfader, 8 RGB performance pads per side, and professional inputs and outputs (including booth output). The rugged all metal chassis means the PMX-10 can take a beating for years to come. The real secret sauce in the PMX-10 is the MIDI and audio interface functionality. Every control on the PMX-10 sends MIDI – not just the dedicated MIDI functions like the cue buttons and effects controls. This combined with the built-in 4 channel audio interface allows the PMX-10 to also work as a fully stand-alone MIDI controller.

The PMX-20 is the big brother of the PMX-10, sporting a 4 channel mixer as well as the same core features and rugged build quality of the PMX-10. The PMX-20 introduces page-able performance pads to cover 4 virtual decks, an expanded library navigation section, and assignable per channel MIDI assignment. It also includes an assignable effects bus with selectable pre or post send, a mic channel with talkover and of course, all the great MIDI control and audio functionality from the PMX-10.

The PMX mixer line from Gemini is a great tool for any toolbox. Whether you’re looking for a traditional mixer, a MIDI mixer, or a decent mixer controller, the PMX mixers have the features you want at a price you’ll love.

A lot for not a lot

It was bound to happen — Gemini do like to take what’s popular and put out a more affordable version. But they’ve gone a step or so further by giving them 8 x RGB buttons per side, filters, a fully mappable surface, and a surprise inclusion of the send and receive loop for external effects units. But with the inclusion of a fader controls, and making them Innofader ready, the bang to buck ration with these mixers is very high indeed.

Priced at $299 and $399 respectively, these are definitely worth looking at in a few months. I’m keen to get these in for a bash.
