NAMM 2014: Gemini Slate and Slate 4 Virtual DJ controllers

Gemini Slate 4 Slate 2 Virtual DJ controller Namm 2014

After years of monchromatic DJ products, the whole DJ world is going dayglo like a Sony ad. First it the DDJ-SZ, then the Reloop Terminal Mix 8, and now Gemini are having a scoop of the tutti-frutti action with their new Slate and Slate 4 controllers. Powered by Virtual DJ, these controllers are properly aimed at laptop users i.e. very slim and with cables coming out the side.

Some near identical words for each controller:

A Clean Slate?

Well they certainly are tidy units. As I said, with the cables doing out of the side, the Slates can sit flush against your laptop. And being generally slimmer than other controllers, these will take up even less space in your DJ bag.

It’s hard to make out everything on these images, but the only real elements missing compared to other controllers are the dedicated FX controls seen on other units of this sort. But other than that, these look to have got most bases covered.

No word on price or ETA. This could be a bit like the G2V and G4V, where Gemini float a trial balloon at NAMM and wait for feedback before going ahead. If that’s the case, the above FX controls would be my only comment at this time. Add them, and Traktor/Cross mapping will make everyone very happy.
