When Apple brings out new iPads, Algoriddim are always on hand to give their iOS apps a serious injection of power. And with the A7 processor and iOS7 tweaks comes a handful of new features to make your shiny new iPads purr with pleasure when running djay 2 and vjay.
It’s not that the apps need more grunt to run smoothly. Their core functions already do that quite happily. But to add more features requires the extra horsepower. Here’s what Algoriddim has got in store:
Algoriddim Leverages the iPad’s New A7 Processor with Updated Versions of djay 2 and vjay
New Powerful Desktop-Class Features Include Harmonic Match™, Inter-App-Audio Integration with GarageBand in djay 2, and HD Video Mixing and Rendering in vjay App with Enhanced Video Effects
(Munich, Germany) – Nov 4, 2013 – Today, the creators of the world’s best-selling iOS DJ software, Algoriddim, release a full range of advanced new features for djay 2 and vjay that leverage the power of the new A7 64-bit processor.
djay 2 for iPad continues to build upon Algoriddim’s philosophy of creating accessible DJ tools for all users. Pros and beginners alike will find the new features, such as Harmonic Match™ with real-time pitch shift, significantly improve the experience mixing music on the iPad. With the introduction of the new key match selector, users can now control a song’s key to match the key of another song. This opens the doors to DJs for easy mashups that are always pitch-perfect. For example, if one song is in D major and the other song in E major, djay can now transpose a song in real-time to match its key with that of the other song, for an even more seamless music mix than ever before.
The djay 2 library has also been updated to make it much easier to find songs that will match well with each other. A new navigation feature allows the user to easily sort songs by key and harmonic similarities. This allows for quick selection of the right tracks that will produce the best sounding mixes without the guesswork.
In addition, djay 2 now adds extended support for Inter-App Audio (new in iOS 7), which allows sending the audio output from djay 2 to other host apps like GarageBand. For example, GarageBand saves djay’s output into a track which can be mixed with other tracks like piano to create a new song.
With this new update to djay 2, it is also now possible to control host apps directly from within djay. This allows for example to easily start a recording music track from djay 2 into Garage Band without leaving the app. Thus, users can add drumming tracks to GarageBand using djay 2’s sampler drum pads or add the sound of scratching to a music creation.
Moreover, Algoriddim introduces powerful updates to video mixing app, vjay. Leveraging the A7’s 64-bit processor, including its significant graphics performance improvements, enables vjay to playback, record, and mix HD videos and output in HD resolution with cutting-edge power rivaling desktop systems.
Stunning new visual transitions have also been added to this update for vjay. “Luma” is a new transition that mixes the luminosity channel of a video signal with a second video producing a dynamic and fluid video effect. “Edge” is another new transition that detects and highlights the contours of objects in a video in real-time for a unique visual effect.
vjay also gets an amazing new real-time visual effect, “Echo Audio/Video” that produces a mind blowing trailing effect of both video and audio providing a new layer of creative expression to the palette of powerful vjay videos effect tools.
“We are ecstatic to share with our fans of djay and vjay the amazing and powerful new enhancements we have developed,” said Karim Morsy, CEO of Algoriddim. “With the additional power of the A7 processor, users can now mix, manipulate and record HD video in real-time, a feat that is still difficult even with powerful desktop computers. The new transitions and effects have to be seen to be believed, I can’t wait to see how people use these new features.”

djay 2 and vjay run on iPad 2 or newer devices. Some of the advanced new features introduced in this update are available to users running an iPad Air or the newest generation iPad mini with retina display.
It’s another incremental release for djay and vjay, but it does bring with it some very useful features. Djay in particular benefits from the very trendy harmonic mixing buzz. It’s had it for a while, but instead of having to work within the acceptable ranges thus limiting music choice, djay can now key shift to make any music match, something that I expect a lot more software to do soon enough. Like anything, just don’t push it too far or it sounds awful.
It’s another decent free upgrade for djay and vjay. I’m looking forward to what else algoriddim can throw at the iPad to make it sing.
