From a mainstream DJ perspective, we’re still unsure around these parts as to the necessity for 4 decks. They’re already a world full of DJs who care barely put a set together on 2 decks, yet they hurtle towards 2 more channels like it’ll make them better or cooler DJs. One DJ however who does make solid use of 4 decks is DJ Delimentary.
A one-time Pioneer user, Delimentary recently switched firstly to Denon’s DN-X1700 ubermixer, but was then cajoled into parting ways with his CDJ-1000s and jumping ship completely to Denon. His somewhat lengthy coffin now contains the aforementioned DN-X1700 mixer, sandwiched between 4 x SC2900 decks.
So Denon have come with Mixkhana. Methinks that people have been watching a little too much Ken Block? It does however sound like a thing worth building on – who be a cool name for a DJ battle of some sort. And Delimentary seems to be a worthy exponent of it too.
Consider this set a bit of fun. it’s a snippet from a much longer 15 minutes set that will take centrestage at the BPM Show. But it does give a tantalising glimpse of what 4 decks could do.
