CDJs have reached 30 years old. Yes you read that right, 30. So that conversation about vinyl versus digital is as old as Livin’ Joy – Dreamer.
To celebrate this landmark AlphaTheta have announced a new limited-edition fanzine to celebrate the 30th birthday of the iconic CDJ, called Deckades (a name which works on several levels and we are amazed no club nights use).
We were fortunate to get an exclusive preview, and it’s a bit of memorabilia that’ll you’ll want. inside are interviews with Fabio, Fatboy, TSHA and the creator of the CDJs Kou Atsumi as well as the history of the CDJ from CDJ-500 to CDJ-3000. The print version is limited, so get your copy from the official Pioneer blog asap.
Did you know?
CDJs were built on Pioneer’s in-car stereo anti-skip tech, that employed a memory to ensure gapless playback.
What the DJs say
Fabio – “I wasn’t havin’ any of it. I’m a vinyl guy” Then, five years later, I went over to CDJs and never looked back.”
Fatboy Slim – “The turning point was a night where I was playing on a lorry at Carnival in Salvador, Brazil for five hours back to back with David Guetta. He was whupping my ass because his CDJs were louder and didn’t jump every time we went over a pothole… He absolutely blew me off stage that night and it hurt!”
Once more – CDJs have been around how long???
30 years. This long..
Happy Birthday to the CDJs. Here’s to 30 more years.
