Numark’s naughty NAMM teasers

Numark winter NAMM 2013 teaser

I could feel the collective groan as eyes scanned the word “teasers”. But it’s NAMM time, and the trade show warm up period just wouldn’t be the same without some blurrycam action. And Numark are suitably giddy enough to decide that their new stuff is good enough to bust out the macro lens to take obscure images of not one but two new products.

I will give context to this article by saying that I know the majority of what is and isn’t coming at NAMM. I’m not one for rumour peddling, mock prophesies based on insider knowledge, or flailing around in the dark hoping to hit something and giving false hope to people. So I’m not giving you any detail, but simply posting this stuff for you to mull over and offer your intelligent and educated opinions. Or indeed insanely wild guesses.

Numark winter NAMM 2013 teaser

Numark winter NAMM 2013 teaser

Earlier this week, a teaser notice appeared hinting at things to come. Next came a couple of close up shots of a something that Numark say “is going to shake up the world of DJing”. Of that I have no doubt. ;)

But today came this microscopic mouthwatering morsel. 4 seconds of multi-coloured pad action… that’s it. And that’s all I’m saying.

There’s more, but that’s everything that Numark are teasing for now. So off you go – speculate away. What do you think Numark’s got coming?

Not interested at all on Numark’s crap but this is a controller that has mpc type pads on the mixer section, not at all impressed. There’s a video somewhere from NAMM2012 and they were showing the prototype.

Funny – 15 days ago you were saying how you needed a Numark 4TRAK in your life.

It’s not crap when it’s free I suppose.

Some sort of answer to the Pioneer DDJ-SX; maybe they made that NS6-MPC combo?!

    • Mark

it was an NS7-MPC combo… not an NS6. And I doubt it, unless they’ve changed the design drastically…

  • http://www.facebook.com/dopekut Alex Sano

    looks like a traktor copycat

    • http://twitter.com/1000cutts 1000 Cutts

Really? Looks like hardware to me dude!

  • James Wilson

I wonder if the RGB lights mean that NI are gonna finally be opening the remix decks other companies. Or maybe Numark are just being smart and thinking ahead.

    Numark’s answer to the DDJ-SX.

  • K1

I’d bet a dollar that this is going to use Serato DJ…

  • http://www.facebook.com/dax.murphy.7 Dax Murphy

looks like x-mas tree lights to me.

  • White Wulfe

I agree with what a few others have said – it would be quite lovely to see a third party controller for the remix decks….

Additionally, pads arranged around what looks like a jogwheel could prove interesting…

  • Mark

@facebook-1385275185:disqus, if you’re not interested at all in this “crap” – why did you feel the need to click on the article and comment?

  • The_KLH

Everybody knows that the next big thing in stage lighting is an effect light that looks like MPC pads. It doubles as a garage opener… and a Simon portable game.

  • phillip diaz

any gear who doesn’t use serato is well welcome! hope it’s design for traktor!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/ivan.zilch Ivan Zilch

hmmm new remix deck controller? new serato dj controller? that round thingie on top of the pads seems like illuminated jogwheel or some sort?

  • http://www.facebook.com/charly.cheeba Charly Cheeba

Traktor 3 + fully integrated controller = much happiness.

  • http://twitter.com/charginout steve brown

whenever I see vel sensitive pads on a dj controller, i feel like i’m looking at the clearance rack at a dept. store, full of t-shirts with stuff printed on them that ruined a perfectly good plain shirt. arcade buttons were and still are the epitome of awesome on a controller. does dude have that ish patented or something?…jeeez

  • http://www.facebook.com/rruel Ryan Ruel

    I think it’s a Simon Says.

  • http://www.facebook.com/oscartownsley Oscar Townsley

wow that’s a terrible tease vid. multi coloured pads – congratulations.

  • http://www.KladniFigures.com/ Scooter Jackson

Comin out on my birthday, won’t be able to afford it.

  • http://www.ingenuitybusdev.com/ randalltrini

Answer to the Pioneer DDJ-SX with velocity touch sensitive pads on the jog wheels and a separate bank of multi-coloured LED pads per channel…

  • http://www.facebook.com/serjoka Sergio Pantaleo

I don’t see anything but a jogwheel with some pads arounds. This is a very poor teaser.

  • http://www.facebook.com/don.vittorio.7 Don Vittorio

Whats the big surprise? This is just the final retail version of the MPCxNS6 mashup prototype they showed off last year. We all knew it was coming, but unfortunately since Pioneer beat them to the punch with their DDJ-SX this will have little wow factor unless they can bring something else new to the table.

    • nickfromgreece

it will work with traktor so they will manage to get the people who wanted a ddj tx

  • http://www.facebook.com/gulli.johansen Gulli Johansen

it’s going to be a Serato DJ controller to replace their own N6 and compete with the DDJ SX. But none of the Numark controllers have ever been apeling to me the 4Trak is the one that came closest to what I like in controllers

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1137292039 Ronald Edwards

I *REALLY* doubt that Numark is going to shake up the DJ world, but from what I see, it appears they are going to be curving trigger pads around the jog wheel… which is really not all that new.

    • richfrompreston

I think they already have shaken up the DJ world by having the best entry level controllers in the world. interesting to see pioneer playing the “mee too” game by launching “affordable” controllers for the 1st time ever- arguably copying the success of Numark

  • Dokumentary

My mailman’s sister dates a guy who hangs out at a bar with with 2 dudes who’s roommate works at Native Instruments. (He’s a security guard). He said that NI will be merging Traktor and Machine and there will be a bunch of new controllers that have pressure sensitive pads for samples, drums, and Traktor’s remix decks. This is one of them. Although not a high-end one. The really nice one will be made by NI and will be 4 deck capable with super smooth jogs. Very different from the S4. Too bad I’m still using the antiquated Serato software. Do you know that you can’t even use timecode with Serato DJ? Of course you do. That’s why most of you use Traktor.

    • richfrompreston

I hope your info is correct mate, that sounds really cool. I hope NI can also copy the double rez jog wheels from the top end Numark controllers & also have the forsight to put some decent audio outputs on – that is what lets the S4 down imo

    • wpetraska

I wish NI would come out with a DAW. They make everything else very very well.

  • wpetraska

Numark’s current offerings do not interest me like they used to. The X2, HDX, CDX were all outstanding products but too bad they were all built like garbage and then sold in fire sales months later.

    • richfrompreston

things have moved on since the days of cd’s and internal hard drives though?

have you seen build quality on 4track or NS6?? – best out their by a long way!
popper balanced outputs rather than RCA like on pioneer!, double rez midi on jogs too – you have to remember not only do they make stuff for the pro they also make mass market stuff too

      • wpetraska

I definitely agree that people have moved on but making a ton of controllers doesn’t strike me as exciting. I’ve heard the build quality has gotten better. Theoretically, a controller should be a lot easier to make since there are less moving parts than the X2 or HDX. And I do like the fact they do make mass-market products. Not everyone can afford Pioneers.
