Musikmesse 2012 – VCI-400 gets mixer mode

It’s fair to say that this year’s Musikmesse has been tumbleweed central so far, with just a couple of new bits to see. but Facebook ha thrown up this little tidbit for your enjoyment. No press release or anything even vaguely official, but this was just posted from the show floor but Vestax themselves:

Vestax VCI-400 Mixer mode

I could pad this out with all manner of long winded words, but this picture says absolutely everything. And as a firmware upgrade, that means it’ll free and just made the VCI-400 more attractive than it already is. God Bless the digital age.

Thats one serious free upgrade! Is just me or does it seem like Vestax are on the war path at the mo?

    No ITCH support, no interest.

Yes ITCH support, tons of interest.

Wait, does this include Serato Scratch Live? Is in the FULLY FUNCTIONAL, PLATTERS INCLUDED with SSL?

No – it doesn’t turn the VCI-400 into a Scratch Live controller. It simply turns it into a mixer, that you’ll be able to hook your DVS system up and use just like any other mixer. You’ll still need turntables or CD decks.

hell yes these is great for me as i dont hae much room .i can plug this in to mixvibes cross
when they have 4 deck support :) and use my turntables as my main decks and the jog wheels as my remix decks

but i have to ask is vestax bring the j arm back from the pdx 2300mk2 pro ?

    • http://www.djworx.com Mark Settle

I’d say you’d be lucky is Vestax continued with turntables at all. And that’s a guess before wild speculation ensues.

I wonder if the filters will work in the standalone mixer …

    • http://www.djworx.com Mark Settle

Good question. I will find out tomorrow unless someone from Vestax jumps in before.

If ITCH compatibility isn’t on the table for a firmware update… I hope for HID compatibility with Traktor… It’s a nice piece of kit but it scratching sucks when compared to the Kontrol S4, or the older VCI-300… (I know it is possible because the scratching integration with Serato Intro and the VCI-400 is spot on…) Yes, it’s convenient to have this thing as a mixer, but what about updating the firmware so the jogs can reach it’s full potential!

True that, this thing deserves hi res scratch control!

I don’t understand how this is news. Didn’t the VCI-400 already have a pair of line inputs? The RCA and switches have been on the back of the chassis since it was released. :-/

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001027166218 PaulHolland DoubleDutchdj

Not as big news as this first seems I guess. To understand the benefits you have to look at what options different software gives you. For instance SSL hasn’t got an internal mixer, so even tho there’s inputs on the back of the 400 there was “previously” know way to actually use them with SSL as you would be just plugging in to soundcard inputs.. But this update turns the once midi only C&D channels in to actual audio controls. From a Traktor point of view this update doesn’t mean a great deal, inputs C & D were for routing audio in to Traktors decks in live input mode where they are then mixed internally.

I wonder if you could make this Traktor Certified, would make for a terrific combination with some turnies. They are definitely working towards having this generations VCI-100.

@Jack – before it still had to be plugged into a machine to work.

That would mean a hardware update as turntables can not be plugged directly in to the 400 as there’s no phono pre amps or earth mounts, hence the blurb says “DVS or CD players”. Basically line inputs only.

Good move Vestax. Really bolsters an already kick-ass controller.

Sooo… now you have to run TWO DJing applications? Is this is a good thing?

So to match the S4 (that can do it with just ONE DVS and without an external interface), the VCI-400′s owner needs to buy Traktor Scratch Duo and upgrade to Scratch Pro. Ok.

To get to the similar state in Scratch Live, you’d have to buy SSL and then run it while you run another DJ app (like Virtual DJ) for the VCI-400′s A and B decks.

I dunno. This seems kind of kludgy to me.

Brilliant. I just got this bad boy delivered yesterday, glad to see they’re committed to supporting it and improving functionality. Being able to use it offline (without a laptop) makes things much more versatile for me.

Seems to me, Vestax are set to become reigning champions.

  • candyman

When is this available guys? Big news this and very welcomed

    • Tim-Rex

Have a closer look at the photo – Coming April 2012

  • http://twitter.com/Innofader Innofader

Mark – does it require a computer to work in stand-alone mixer mode or can it run that way without a computer attached?

    • http://www.djworx.com Mark Settle

I asked Vestax and got his response:
stand alone truly means stand alone. Trim, EQ and filter, no need of a computer. (as a 2ch mixer though)
Can’t be any clearer than that really.

  • Tim-Rex

Any word on that VCI-400 review or are Vestax still “fact-checking” ? I’d be willing to believe DJWorx are holding off for this here firmware update to become available – but since they’ve missed their ‘April 2012′ release window… well…

    • http://www.djworx.com Mark Settle

I have one review in. Photography is happening net week, and a further review with a rather complex special mapping will be released with it too.

      • Tim-Rex

        Nice. Looking forward to it.
