Allen & Heath xone XD-20 XD2-53 headphones

Yes indeed – this year, the giveaway is set to music. So while you watch this unfold, you’ll be able to join in with the singsong. Anyway, the 1st day sees Allen & Heath spreading some Christmas cheer with not 1, not 2, not 3 but 4 pairs of headphones ready to make a bunch of readers happy all at once.

There are 3 pairs of the recently reviewed xone XD-20 inner ear monitors, and one lucky winner getting a pair of the very highly regarded Xone XD2-53 headphones. We reviewed the original XD-53s and rated them in the top 3, as this seems to reflect their standing in the wider industry too.

So to win, the full details are in this post. But in a nutshell, simply leave a comment below. Not an anonymous one, but a logged one via a Disqus, Facebook, Twitter or Google+ login. If I can’t contact you, you can’t win. Good luck and happy commenting!

    Dear Father Worxmas,
    My inner ears are so cavernous, my kids spend endless hours yelling “help, I’m trapped in here, throw down a rope!” into them, and fall about laughing when the echo comes out, 5 seconds later. To whit, earbuds don’t sit in my ears, they just rattle around and fall out (to the further amusement of my offspring).
    My Christmas wish is for a pair of XD-20′s which will once and for all:
    A) Fit nice ‘n’ snug in my lug holes.
    B) Allow me to enjoy my music the way it’s supposed to sound.
    C) Make my kids find a new hobby.

    When I was in school, I was no special person. I was not a person that drew attention to me, who was particularly good at school or talked much. I only had a few friends but I had a good time. That was probably what made me a kind of philosopher at the age of 6, half a year after I school started, I thought a lot of philosophical thoughts. I thought if we all experience the same things and if we all are good on the inside, etc. But I got stuck at one thought. What is the meaning of life? Is it dying? Is it to be good? … No, I came up with my answer. The meaning of life is to reach your goal. A goal can be anything from becoming a professional soccer player to be traveling in India. But the problem with this answer is that there was a follow-up question: What is my goal? I searched and searched but it was in vain. I gave up. But by an acsident I found the goal six years later.

    When I was seven years old, I stole my brother’s iPod. I listened to a song by markolio. It was a plain old song that everyone listened to and I thought that the music was good. But what I didn’t know was that my life would change about 10 seconds after that. It would change my dreams, it would change my schooling and it might even change my innermost self. My life would change, both positively and negatively. Without knowing it was the iPod on shuffle mode and suddenly I heard a completely different kind of song. The song was “Phantom pt.2″ by Justice. I fell in love instantly. I said to myself:
    - I’m going to do whatever it takes to work with this when I grow up!
    It became my life’s goal I decided back then. I looked at what was needed for the equipment to be a DJ and I read on the forums. It usually stood “Don’t buy this and this, buy the really good stuff from the begining!”. This was something I decided to do. I was determined to have the best of the best. But when I checked how much it costed I almost fainted. It was the prices I clouldn’t even come close to. I saved and saved since that day to afford good equipment. But I haven’t even come close. I saved every penny, but I was only seven years old and I didn’t have a job. i actuallöy did search for a job, but it wasn’t leagle to have one at that age. I could see my friends every day, they went buying other food at school. But I didn’t spend any money for school meals since I’ve decided that one day afford a good DJ gear. So I ate the schoolfood. This made me a bit thinner too so that was a little plus.

    I got all the “House”-ich songs that my brother had and I listened to the songs on my PSP. I was extremely interested in the “House music” and the DJ job. I read blogs about it and I was always looking for more music to buy. (DJWORX are of course one of them today) But when I was at school one day and listened to my music, it was a classmate who asked:
    What are you listening to?
    - This, I said, and handed the headphones to him.
    He listened about 30 seconds and then he took of his headphones and said:
    - This is awful!
    - Why? I asked.
    - There was no “real instruments” in it, and no vocals either!
    I remembered that I thought that he was a bit of an moron and I asked another classmate to listen to the song, she thought it was too electronic. I asked the classmate after classmate and they all thought that the song was either awful, electronic or monotonous. I was sad, no one liked it. But I realized that it did not matter how much they hated the song. The most important thing was that I liked it. I decided to run my own race instead of doing everything as the others. You call me a hipster or something similar now, but it is not in that way. I didn’t do it because I thought I was cool, I was just burning for it.

    A few years later, when I was about 9 years old, the time when everyone wanted to be cool came. They showed their coolness by bullying people and I was obviously a victim because I was a bit fluffy. They thought they had the right to call me thick, the guy with manboobs or the fat kid. This, in combination of the discovery about my music taste(again) and my dream of becoming a DJ one day wasn’t something that anyone should experience. There was nothing that the teachers reacted to. they probably thought it was something usuall. But that wasn’t the case. It was a difficult period in my life and my friend and love couldn’t take the risk to be bullied because she was friend of mine. She desided to leave me alone. I had been in love with her since the day I saw her and I finally got in touch with her. My other friends also left me. It was because of the same reason. There was fortunately no longer time, but it was enough to affect me mentally. If you have comed this far, I’m shure you’re thinking:
    Couldn’t you just tell the teachers …
    NO I COULDN’T. If you tell the teachers, you become even more vulnerable and you can’t do it anonymously either, because the bullies probably know who they are bullying. The only thing I needed was help from someone who had succeeded in his life. Even better, a DJ who has been bullied when he was small.

    So now I had no friends, no love, no one loved me and no life. Nor any support from anyone. The solution I came to was suicide. It happened that I actually tried to kill myself in the bathroom at school, but when I did, A thought came to my head I thought of the 7-year old me, who discovered the music and said to himself:
    - I intend to do whatever it takes to work with this when I grow up.
    Then I put on my headphones and everything paused. I saw myself in the backstage room. I saw myself standing in front of the door to the stage and next to me, is my love. I can hear Pete Tong’s voice from BBC Radio 1:
    - Here comes the newest, the youngest, the most increadibble, CLOUDY!
    I run to the stage and stood there DJ:ing. I have the DJs things I always dreamed of. I have my love. I see 100,000 people dancing to the music and they are all waiting for the drop. I drop it and it is the biggest drop ever. It is perfect and all the people dance like the world was going to end that night. But everything is interrupted by:
    - HAHAHA are you there? And a mocking laugh because of the fact that I ran away from them.

    The Bullers has stopped, But I don’t have any friends left. I’ve started producing music to occupy myself with music until I can afford a DJ gear. I think it helps me to understand the structure of the songs. But I could have friends today if I had the support of a successful but bullied DJ.

    If I would win these things I would train and train. And then I would make a tutorial on how to become a DJ/producer at my school. I would say to people:
    - I was bullied, but I became something, so don’t give up!
    That would give the support a bullied person needs. As a bullied person I know that everything you need when you are bullied, is someone saying that to you.

    When I was little and said I would do whatever it takes to work with music, I really meant it. I was obviously prepared to lay out the story of my life open to all of the people on the web.

    So please, make my dream that I’ve had since I was 6 years old come true, make all these years of being bullied worth it, and above all, help me in the fight against bullying.

    I’ve not DJ’d with in-ear monitors before, but I worship a mix of earplugs and headphone monitoring, so it’s surely the way to go. If only there were some way I could get a pair of in-ear monitors… Merry Christmas.

    i’m all about some earbud style earphones nowadays.
    i currently rock some $10 ones from Walgreens and i love them. i’m so in love with this style that i sold my SONY’s that i’ve had for about 6 years and am all ear bud style now.
